-wheel bearing had to be replaced at 80k
-Shifter cable had to be replaced at 70k

~ 30 K a/c compressor clutch died; belt tensioner began to squeal after rain

~50 K MAF sensor and O2 not working as well as they could; orginal brake pads finally needed replacing

That's it. Other than the a/c dying an early death, she's been as reliable as my other two previous gen Celicas (knocking on wood :chuckles: ).

How much did it cost to fix the syncros?

What are symptons that you need to replace your shifter cable? I notice at time when I'm shifting, it doesn't want to go into gear or have to force it more than normal.

How much to replace syncros and what are symptons for needing replacement?

I called the dealership just this past tuesday and I told him symptons that I was noticing with my car. My car will tend to lose engine performance in gears and in first gear it will make a metallic chatter sound; they told me that it could be numerous things, but he did inform me it could be parts of clutch, timing chain, other things. I'm taking my car in for diagnostics tomorrow to find out exactly what the problem might be, but do you think what he told me is a fair analysis?

Thanks,

Hector

Bought @ 35K last yr... now @ 75K... new cyl head due to lift bolts.. found right after I joined this board  I think I'm looking @ wheel bearings soon. Think I'm starting to hear some hum around 35-45 mph. Yep, still on original clutch and brakes... which I have new rotors & pads to go on... probably do it all @ 90K.. if the bearing holds up.

From Toyota experience... not necessarily Celica... common high mileage Toyota items can include:
*clutch (although, both my last Camrys went over 200K on the originals)
*transmission (ditto)
*brakes/calipers/rotors/slave cylinders(on drums)
*alternator
*exhaust (which will include cat/resonator)
*shocks
*Clutch Slave & Master cylinders
*water pump
*Power door locks/power windows... especially driver's side.. from repetitive door opening/closing breaking the wires between the door & frame
*CV joints (clicking)
*lightbulbs... not necessarily blowing.. but the lead contacts melt down.. particularly Tail/Brake
*steering wheel horn ring wearing out (uses brushes like the alternator)
*belt pulleys
*Fuel gauge sender (they wear down)

'00 GT with 102k, bought at certified used at 60k. Only thing I've had to replace is a bad VSV and that notorious belt tensioner. Other than that just regular maintenance and the occasional MAF cleaning.

2000 GT-S 80k miles
Belt tensioner - sucks
synchros -grinding
clutch - replaced with synchros
lift bolts - broken
MAF - bad
Sunroof (peeling)
Head light (condesation)
Rear hatch gas shock - lost pressure

Most of mine I took care of while under the warranty period.
