Ok.. let's see if we can get a thread here with as much information... documented and proven about the differences between the different years' USDM ECU's.. besides the obvious rev-limt what else changed from year to year??

Okay this is for GTS 6 Speed mind you....

2000 - Original Spec

2001 - Corrected Logic for faulty P0300 detection

Late 2001 / 2002 - Lowered Rev limit to 7800 RPM, 2002 also saw the introduction of teh 2 wire "flat type" knock sensor

2003 - Introduction of drive by wire and re-instatement of 8300 or 8400 Rev limiter (have not tested myself to determine exact point)

Parts Timeline

08/16/99-9/7/99 - 89666-20080 (Very limited production, does not show in parts catalog or on parts master but does show in computer system. as having been used for a short time. Can NOT be ordered)
08/99-12/99 - 89666-20081 (subs to the 20082 number in the parts system - because of that there is 0 stock and it cannot be ordered)
12/99-08/00 - 89666-20082
08/00-08/01 - 89666-20083
08/01-08/02 - 89666-20190
08/02-10/02 - 89661-2G400
08/02-current - 89661-2G401

Eddited my first post to incluse all the production dates and part numbers for the 6Speed GTS ECMs

oh the 20080 part is rumored to have a lift engage point of 6K instead of 6200, but I don't know if this was ever confirmed. This part would only be found in a GTS with a production date of 08/99 or maybe 09/99 at the latest.

I was going to mention that about the lift engaugement point.
I have seen 2 dyno charts from early 2000 model celica's where lift engauges at 6000... where my engine engauges it at 6200.

I think there is delay in the power transfer.... it activates at 6000 but.. cause of the power transfer to the wheel... maybe delay it on the chart...
If it was dyno on the crank.. it might be accurate....

Delay in power transfer?? no i highly doubt it... you can here the cam crossover at 6000 in those cars that were produced in early 2000 / late 99... my car crosses over at 6200...

Production date is listed in MM/YY format on the white sticker on the drivers door or doorjam of your car - same sticker also has VIN and some other info.

just for your information, the cross-over really depend on the gauge cluster. I have a 2001 Celica GTS with 2 gauge cluster. The orginal cluster would activate lift at 6200 and cuts out at 8400. However when I install the 2nd gauge cluster which I believe came from a 2000 or so celica, i'm not really sure the date of it but when I install it, it would kick in at 6000 and cutout at 8300. This is with the same ecu but just changed the gauge cluster. Hope that helps. :)

hmmmm First time I hear changing gauge cluster would help lower Lift engagement and raise fuel shutoff. ECU and the knock sensor controls these, I am pretty sure gauge cluster has nothing to do with it.
To confirm with what you are claiming, put stock gauge cluster and try your car again. If the lift goes up to 6200 and fuel shutoff drops then its true. But I highly doubt it because you got 2001 Celica GT-S which should have the lower lift engagement and higher fuel shutoff point so there should not be any change.

Griffin,
Great info. Even if stock ECU info no longer applies to me, this is very fascinating info. My Celi was built on 8/99 and had the original ECU with the 6000 rpm lift switchover/8300 rpm fuel cut.

i have a 00 GTS and i just dyno'd it the other day and my lift does start at 6k....excatly...and for the gauge cluster thing, i think your new cluster is just calibrated wrong.....

The guage cluster issue could be because of an improper calibration like sean said... however when dynoing the rpm is measured throug hthe ignition (i beleive) and i have seen peoples dyno charts where lift does start at 6000.

yes my dyno chart shows mine starting at 6, but my cluster is off by 200 rpm's so my cluster shows it starting at 6200
