I need help, my engine covers were beautifully painted white.. i even waxed them so that they would not scratch easy., and then toyota gave me a new engine and while they were doing that it looks like they went surfing on the concrete with my engine covers.. they are crazy awful looking.. i tried to repaint them but they bubbled up somehow and i cant repaint them without the paint doing this wierd cracking thing. The engine bay looks like HELL now.. please help.. it is a blue 2000 gt. Does anyone have any links to a place i can buy an aftermarket engine cover for the gt.. injen only makes for the gts. Either that or does anyone have any tips on repainting covers? help please

try the For Sale forum in the "wanted to buy" area. I have an old GT valve cover that has a small crack in it- but can easily be glued back together and I think i still have the big plastic piece that goes from the passengers side all the way down. Lemme know you'd be interested in them.............

It's probably the wax thats gicing you the problem. You need to rub the whiole piece down with wet and dry paper and then wash it with soapy water and rinse well. The primer coat should then take nicely.

dude...u should be happy that toyota gave you a new engine(if it was a misshift).....the plastic valve cover is such a minor thing. you could have ended up paying much much more

Not if its still under warranty, mine blew too, and they couldn't even tell me why cuz I definately wasn't even pushing it hard, they said that the engines simply sometimes go, unfortunately I was like 300 miles past lemon law, I still got a new engine though

If it happens when your putting the clearcoat on, your not waiting long enough to put it on. I was having the same problem, then I waited a week before doing the clear and it worked okay. Also, don't do to much clear in one coat.

You can go to home depot and get a can of latex based paint stripper. Brush it on , wait 10 min and hose it off. Repeat if needed until you removed all the old paint. Afterward sand with like 400 grit sand paper and repaint. I have stripped and repaint my covers about 5 times, and the above procedures works beautifully. Just make sure you got rubber gloves and stay away from down stream if the hose spray, i.e. avoid getting any stripper on your skin....it will burn as I found out
