Obviously the cams. But what else? Head? Intake/exhaust valves?

Don't know if any accessories (alternator, water pump, etc.) are the same, but the heart of the engine (block, head, intake manifold, and header) is pretty different.

Different parts include crank, rods, pistons, valves, and more.

The block has a larger bore (the 2ZZ has a larger bore than the 1ZZ, and a shorter stroke). The crank is different to reflect the shorter stroke. The rods and pistons are different to give the appropriate compression ratio and valve clearance. I think the valve angles in the head are different. The rocker arms which engage "lift". And so on...

I'd say it's a almost a completely different engine that just happens to bolt right in where the 1ZZ would, and it also happens to share the 1ZZ's bore pitch (distance between the centerline of each cylinder).

So can a 2zz go into a 1zz? I have a 2000 toyota celica gt and I found a motor from a 2002 celica gts can I put that motor into my car

Most importantly is the oil pump and high performance oil baffle. I don't know what this thing does but the 2zz block is cast from the 1zz with slight diferences in the outer case for additional oil passages.

This explains why the head won't swap out like 4age or honda a v-tech.


Edit: 2zz oil pan being hollow with a 1zz counter part being baffled, both are 100% compatabile. Oil pick up being different with 1zz/2zz crank drag through the oil gally?
