My buddies that opened a tuner garage were talking to me about Limited Slip. I mentioned the small choice we had as Celica owners. They said they have been having success with something called Phantom Grip on the Hondas and Acuras they have been tuning. I checked it out and they have it available for the Celica. I hear it works very well, and is substantially cheaper than the Mrs and Quaife. Just thought I would let you guys know there is something else out there.

Did a back search, and saw people talking about it. Saw some negative stuff, but I'm only hearing good things from the people using them. None of them run it on a Celica, but they have it on several Civics Boosted and lots of GSr's running Turbo.

And why would that be Celikill? Do you have any first hand experience running this on your car? Hmmmm? They don't run it on any Celis, because they just started taking them in to their garage.

Super Street and Sport compact showed no issues with durability etc..

If you read the articles on Super Street etc about it, you will find out how it works other than in a straight line. ;)

Quoting it solely to understand how it works on a curve. What is the problem with reading about how something works? And how much is the MRS? The PG is 299. Im not trying to be abrasive dude, it's just that you have no first hand knowledge of the things, and you are going out of your way to **** on it.

Point is that it uses springs to compress on the stock diff. Those springs will wear out quickly and also will wear the input shaft.

Finding someone that will install this thing (since you have to take the Diff appart) will be costly.

Those people that have had no problems with the Phantom Grim probably don't drive their cars everyday.

EDIT: Oh and stop being cheap. You get what you pay for......

Dude,

First of all, I'm not cheap. I just like to find out why/how things work instead of making wild assumptions.

Second of all if you read my orig message, I know guys installing this in other cars, so install is not a problem. And your point about wear on the springs is wrong because of the link to the guy using it on his Mr2 for 2 years.

I'm smart enough to know you get what you pay for, but I don't shell out 1000's more for Bose audio when I know I can get better sound for much less.

Now you're talking $140 difference. Is that amount of money really worth it? A helical diff is a proven, reliable and trusted method for limited slip on a FWD car. Super Street are total ricers known more for photos than anything. They were probably paid by Phantom Grip to print what they did. Readers of that mag would be the kind of people trying to cut corners on everything. Again, there just are no upsides to this as far as I'm concerned.
Again,

I quoted superstreet SOLELY for the purpose of understanding how it works. That is all.

From Sport Compact:

"Although the PG works by causing a binding action on the Spider gears, the heat treatment and alloy of steel used for the blocks helps avoid damage to the differential. Phantom Grip has been in long-term use on the Hyundai Factory Works Motorola Cup Tiburon racers with no problems."

HOLY ****ING ****!!!!

I brought up this thread so that people knew other things that were out there.

IF YOU ACTUALLY READ, I QUOTED THEM SOLELY FOR THE EXPLANATION OF HOW THE PHANTOM GRIP WORKS! Any by the way, it's not Superstreet that explains it. IT IS TURBO MAGAZINE, SO I MADE A TYPO FOR ****S SAKE. There, now the Super Street point is dead.

And Carbon, give me an example of how I made someone feel dumb. Quit posting out of your *** and READ what I write. I am not trying to cut corners, I am trying to find out how/why things are the way they are, is that so hard for you to understand? Have I ****ed up my car? NO, nor will I. Researching things does NOT **** up your car. Why are you even posting in this thread? Are you even interested in LSD, or did you just to throw in your 2 ****ty cents.

btw I noticed you ask wierd questions, seems like the shops that you talk to do not really know what they are talking about either. Best example is the flywheel bolt question you had... They seem to want to go the cheap way, it may work for awhile until these things let go.

I ask WEIRD questions??? Like, "why is everyone spending 70 dollars on a set of bolts?" I dont think it's weird at all. I eventually found my answer, which was they expand and cant be re-torqued.

The guys at the garage work on Honda and Acura. Apparently they don't use Torque to Yield bolts, so they didn't know about that.

What other "weird" questions have I asked mike? As far as I'm concerned you are and ***hole for jumping on me like this. You probably chicken-hawked one or two posts in this thread and made your decision about me. Thanks alot. I appreciate that. I really wanna know the "alot of weird questions" that I ask.

You should think about joining everythingcelica.com, all you do is start fights here and tell people how dumb they are. Goto everythingcelica.com, thats the OTHER celica forum where people try to cut corners and save every dollar possible and **** up their car.

^^^^^um. lets see..... uh yeah.... :werd:
what he said.

This is the second time you have done this. You were given reasons why people dont trust it, but instead of accepting thier info and asking for more technical questions you keep refering to Super street, a "tuner lifestyle" magazine. (screw the life style, i like cars not hip ho and, altezzas) Be less abrasive and you might get more help and info.

I BOUGHT the bolts D, after someone finally explained why they were needed instead of blindly saying "yeah, you need them".

And dont quote turbo zine on here either.

You start your posts off fine, but then you argue when people tell you what you dont want to hear.

I argue when people say "I wouldnt touch it with a ten foot pole" and dont explain. Im sorry I ask questions and don't nod my head blindly.

NOT ONE PERSON here has had personal or even second hand experience with it. That is my problem. If you read anywhere else, it gets good press. So whats the deal?

No you shouldnt argue when people give their opinions. You ask a question, and then when people try to answer you go nuts. Just be polite and say.. Ok.. why would you not touch it? Instead of crap like " it's just that you have no first hand knowledge of the things, and you are going out of your way to **** on it."

If you read this whole post, thats exactly what I did. And I didnt ask anyones opinion about this, I mentioned it for people to look into and see if it's something they'd want.

Fine dude,

But your point is crazy. Just because noone has tried it here means its crap? You guys are so ****ing closed minded. That is my problem.

And Im sure you will breeze right by this post, just to make me look like a total ***hole.
