How much gas do you have left when your gas light comes on. I have 1.5 with 1 bar. Just wondering cuz that seems like a lot to me. Also, does anyone else gas gauge seem like its not right...like their first 1/4 tank gets more miles than any of the other 1/4s?

It actually varies, I had my tank replaced and now I have a little more than a gallon left when it lights up, before it was around 2 gallons. I probably could adjust it but it's not causing a problem, it just means if light comes on, it's time to fill it up, NOW!!

I have noticed that too. It pisses me off.

i think it's like that. i've noticed that '00 celicas tend to have the first bar (when full) last about to 70-80 miles until it gets to the 2nd bar. on the '02's and up, it seems like the gas seems accurate with what the gauge reads. i own a '00 and my buddy owns a '02, and we fill up all the time. his gauge reads differently than mines because his 1st bar disappears after 45-50 miles.

First bar seems to last longer because typically we fill the tank to more than the sender unit can read. Maybe they updated the sender unit for '02

JK, I have never had a car with an accurate gas guage. Most of them aren't accurate to make you feel like you are getting good mileage, then all of a sudden you have to go to the gas station.

The fuel gauges are meant to be an estimate of fuel remaining. When you have a full tank it will register totally full for a good amount of time, even though you are burning gas, this is because its still full enough for the gauge to estimate it being totally full. Sometime you may even see your one bar miraculously raise to 2. Its all because the fuel gauge is grossly inaccurate.

Case in point, the other day I ran 20 miles on NO bars of gas.

But is always a good Idea to fill up around 2....just in case.

Has anyone ever ran out? I still have to stay by the pump so it does not overflow because of the recall on the damn fuel valve!

Haha! It took a while to load the first post so I clicked "post quick reply" two more times. :faint:

On my drive to Riverside, the first bar got 72 miles and the other bars following only got 20 miles, WTF! Usually each bar in the top fourth of the gas gauge gets about 30-36 miles.

Toyota sucks, the Celica sucks, especially mine. Death to the Toyota Celica. :chuckles:

On average, my first bar doesn't disappear until after about 70 miles. Then it drops like crazy.

Regardless of when the gas light comes on, I don't fill up until that last bar disappears, and then I haul a$$ to the nearest gas station. But even then, after I fill up, my receipt usually says 13.5xx, so that means I still had one gallon left.

Unless it a road trip I fill it at a half tank. Kinda makes it fell like you don't spend so much on fuel

Geez...so what do you guys get for average MPG? About 30?
About the running out of gas...I had a friend do it twice with his car... After we put gas in it, the car still wouldn't start... Took it to a mechanic and there was some serious crap wrong with it. That's the second worst thing you can do to your block, according to the mechanic (I would have thought like 3-4...)...
I don't know...how much does it cost to fill up your tank?? it costs me about $18 to fill it up (about 7-8 gallons) and I usually get about 350miles on the tank... Yep...my car is a POS, but great gas mileage. I'm currently at 392 miles and I am below the E mark... I need to get to 400...but I don't think it's going to happen...:(

First off, letting your car run to the point that there's no more fuel in the gas tank is idiotic. That could lead to serious mechanical problems. Looks like you and your friend found it out the hard way.

I get 27MPG out of my 6-sp GT-S, strictly city cycle (no highways on this island) and I'm not complaining. Wouldn't mind paying $18 per tank though, here a full tank is more like ANG 90,- which is $50. But I ain't complaining.
