Went to dealer for CEL and was told that I have to replace the catalytic converter and O2 switch inside. Was quoted at $1300 for them to do the work. Please help guys what can I do? Is $1300 about what it costs to replace the converter and switch?

I would replace the 02 Sensor myself and reset the ECU and see if that takes care of it. There was some guy on the boards here a while back claiming he'd gone through two catalytic converters, but I think it was mis-diagnosed. - AB

according to the federal emission control warranty on the celica
the catalytic converter and protector is covered for 8/80 which is
8 years or 80,000 miles. Anyway thats what my owners warranty information guide says. You might want to check that out.

Usually if you have a bad 02 sensor, the CEL comes and goes where as a Cat. will make it alluminate constantly.
