I did the "Clock color Change" similar to your write up last year, but glued a blue filter onto the stock display, the result was very dull, but a kinda cyan rather than deep vibrant blue. BTW anyone using superglue, please be carefull as the vapers may cause a whitish film to be present on the clock filter causing dullness. This happened to me.
I was kinda thinking of actually desoldering the actual LCD display and trying to retrofit blue LEDs around to give a better effect but never got round to it. Perhaps later on I will take this up again. But proops to you thou, great write ups.

Yes but without the stock lense present it looks kinda.......... I don't really want to piss on your parade but only with regards to the top pic.

doesn't look good during the day i'm guessing this is down to the camera shot and angle thou, but at night yep certainly looks alot better. Ideally the orange lense needs to be completly swaped out. but the very front plastic from memory when I took mine apart is molded unless you can completly replace this, else kinda shine coloured LEDS though the LCD then it will always look a bit silly during the day. No offense bro.

Dan how come your clock looks different in the writeup than it does in this pic?

It looks like you made some kind of blue cover for it that doesn't appear in the write-up.

no no none taken. shoot i like constructive criticism :) i did agree with you the black behidn it looks cheap and didnt flow. this is however why i paitned it the blue that i did hte rest of my interrior to add something to it.

now the led idea. this has been attempted and researched for quote some time now by a few people (including dooly) in the ned the cost of the piece is just not worth it. one member was contacting the company that makes stock ones to try to get a deal on a large order but still no luck :( so if you figure out a way to get this done for cheap you will make many people very happy :)

Have to admit thats ashame they wern't interested i'm quite surprised actually as a universal smoked plastic would be idea just a change in material when they inject. I supose thou a custom 2-piece mould is possible not too sure on cost thou say $300 - $900 USD as its not a big nore intricate shape, but to make any proffet you must sell hundreds else its just not woth it.

sorry to bump an old thread, but i was just wondering if it was safe to run the cold cathodes while driving. even though theres only 12v at the cig lighter while the car is in acc., when you turn the car on, the voltage is uped to about 14v. is this safe for the inverters, or does 2v really not make a difference?

i wish i would have seen your tuts before i installed my ccfls tonight, because i thought it would be ok to extend the wires one of the cold cathodes (dual kit off a single inverter) since i didnt think it would reach. apparently you cant extend the wires cause now only half that cathode lights up and its really dull. bummer. suppose ill have to redo everything tommorrow.

hwy buddy. Yes your right it is bad to extend cathode wires bu they make little cathode extender wires. as for the power i have had liek 2 out of 8 inverters burn out over time but it could just be that they are cheap and some just burn out. But no i havent had any real issues and i ahve so many running

adds a second fuse and the wire. so you then have a fuse for the origonal item and then a 2nd fuse for the new item (one on the red wire) i'm not a pro electrician (shoot i'm just glad stuff lights up) but it seems to be a safe way to do it. had ot show on the pic but on the side of it there are 2 fuse slots that u put the fuses in
