The reason hoods dont pop is b/c the rubber cylinder things under the hood are either missing or arent adjusted right. When you close your hood, it shouldnt be easy. if its too easy to close, adjust the rubber peices till you need to put a little force to close it. This also helps hoods from floppin around when on the highway.

That's good advice. The hood latch is somthing that is usually overlooked until there's a problem.
Personally, I lubricate my latches at leas once a year, usually during the spring clean up and maintainance, sometimes in the fall.
