The air filter is located on the right side of your airbox at the front of the car by the driver's side headlight. It's a black box with 3 clamps on it, and the air filter is inside.

You check it by looking at it. If it looks clogged and/or dirty, it probably is, and you should change it.

There is no need to change the fuel filter unless you have problems with the fuel system.
You can put a bottle of Seafoam or similar chemical into the full gas tank and drive until it's almost empty.

It's more important to change the serpentine belt to a Goodyear one. After several years it begins to squeak and have cracks. It's the belt at the side of the engine.

you could change the fuel filter as a precautionary measure...although it usually is not changed, a clogged filter down the line can affect the fuel pump by making it work harder. then Toyota will charge you up yours to replace it...

changing the fuel filter, can it be a DIY thing ? and how would i know if the filter is actin up ?
Lagging throttle response, or surging can be symptoms of a clogged fuel filter.

To change it, you need to pull the rear seats out or drop the fuel tank. Get some Seafoam and run it through your fuel, it works wonders. While you are at it, add it to your oil and change your oil after 100 miles, and add it to your crankcase via vaccum line. Search seafoam to find lots of info about it and writeups.

Its one of the easier DIY's for your car. The most time consuming portions of it are removing the lower half of the rear seats and unscrewing 8 screws from the donut-shaped ring that gives you access to the fuel pump and filter.

Dealing with gasoline isn't always the safest thing one could do since you'll be staring into the top of your tank but common sense can get you far. Follow all instructions (that can be found using a search) or better yet, if you have any second thoughts, you can take it to a professional or a friend that has the skills.

As mentioned earlier, its not necessary to change it but I did change mine at 60K (a bit over 5 years old) since I'll have the car for a while and I had some time on a weekend.
