hype over Modena hood ?? worth it (too those who got them-yes) my idea now?

THIS IS NOT A FLAME ON BO STUDIOS !!! this is my own idea thanks to them.......

well... i just got to thinking that i should post this considering that those modena hoods seem to have been a big hype.....

but my .02 cents say not worth it

after those hoods made their apperance here on the boards, my lil' mind got ta thinking and decided to go talk to my bodyshop about it

i told them that it'd be cool if my hood matched that of a TRD supra hood

i showed him pics and told him about rollin over the cuts and meshing it from the backside and all the other details.....

his response was....Not a Problem, when do you want it done?

i asked how much and the approx cost was 'round $300 he said

i just thought i'd share this idea with others in case that $800 and 25 only turned you away from the other hood

if this shop could do it then any other good body/custom shop could

as soon as this mod gets done i'll post the pics

well, i think you bring up a good point, but im pretty sure these hoods will be of extreme high quality. not saying that you couldnt get high quality copies made, but these are guaranteed.

id like to have the same style vented hood on my car, but i dont want a cf hood, so id probably either wait for someone to come out with it, or opt for your suggestion and get a bodyshop to custom do it for me. as long as the vents were function but also prevented water from soaking in, id be down.

well...

i know that when this mod gets done i'll be using it only for shows and on nice sunny days

then i'll have another hood for ****tAY days (in the N.W. it is basically mid oct. 'till late april)

i think definatly worth it ($300)

That is definitly a bad a$$ hood. Definitly not worth the 800 $ though. I would opt for the custom work also because I dont like the carbon fiber look anyway. Hey dustin, ask the bodyshop if they will lower the price if they do 2 hoods.

Let's go out, spend $400- $500+ on a carbon fiber hood with a structure that's designed for a full and closed hood. Then spend $300 to have a bodyshop mimic my designs. Hopefully, the fibers won't look to ragged hanging out from the cutting. Hopefully the uncooked carbon won't flop from the shop job. Next we can all cut the tops off our roofs and make targas? It will look sick until we open the doors and the car buckles becaus it's not designed to support the extra stress. I'm not saying that the your version of my idea won't work, but I like to do it right the first time. You can buy VOLK Rays, or you can buy knock offs. You get what you pay for. The real thing is designed for real tuners, the knock offs are designed for those that want to look like real tuners.

My hoods are designed from the inside out, not the outside in. The vents are placed in the areas they are in for a reason, not just to look pretty. So you can jump in ever post about the hood and hate on the price. This board is open and I expect nothing less, but to ask a body shop to copy the design for $300 + the cost of a hood and take your chances instead of buying the real deal... um, ok. My requirement for 25 hoods to be made... this number is not for hype, but for manufacturing reasons. However, I do agree with you that it seems to have hyped it a bit. The modena bodykit goes into production as soon as the hoods are delivered. Those 37 people that are on wait for that product will be delivered to first. As for your hood... Good luck in your ventures. ;)

PS, can you do me a favor, and take the smoke effect out of my picture that you posted? You are covering up my bostudios.com trademark. I don't mind you posting it only if you don't hide the credit. Thanks.

That bumper kit looks like a problem!

Hey! Doesn't anyone else here know that the main air intake for the A/C and the RADIATOR is behind the port that that kit's bumper completely closes off?

If you live in Alaska, or only drive in the winter, it might not matter, but on a hot day in AZ I would want to have an air intake for my radiator!

Just my .02

Like I have said before it will be worth it.
If we where to ever meet at a car show and the judges had to pick from an ORIGINAL Bo Studios hood and a Bill and Teds most excellent hood, more than likely they are going to go with the BO Hood.
Partially do to the rarity and also the Name behind it.
I am #6 on the list and I am sure it is going to be a wise investment on my part.
But I still want to see what your hood looks like.
Not trying to discourage you, just explaining why I find it to be worth it.

I'll go ahead and repost this AGAIN. There are alluminum scallups that pull air from under the small, front, middle portion of the bumper cover. I'll be posting the final designs next month.

Glitch, you have made a wise purchase. It's just one of those things that some like to imitate, and some like to inovate. I'll be sending out a new news letter later this week on the hood and kit.

settle down there gtsNut.... i was just putting my two cents in on the matter concidering that SINCE there are only 25 hoods being released i was giving the suggestion of what i thought on it -

no, it will not be a replica of your hood - it'll look different by far !!

this shop that i'd go through has done such extensive work on older hotrods and other custom cars in the northwest (two years ago one of their projects -forget exactly what type of car- was and still is one of the hottest hotrods in the US)

now... this is not going to be a carbonfibre hood- it will be the original stock hood and it will be basically "remanufactured" to support any offsets of stress - like how the hood is designed stock of course (the cut edges would be rolled and what ever else they will do to it - i am not a professional at doing these let alone do i know the terms)

the hood would be resprayed to factory color and wolla - you know have a strong hood with a twist (kinda like yours but not the SAME !!)

do you understand what i am saying now ? customizing of hotrods has been being done for years upon years, now our imports are the new generation of hotrods

how many hotrods have you seen that have been modified all upon a vision of the owner? whether it be a chop-top studebaker or whatever, all hand-done (not pre-designed) is more recognizable than a premaid item - IMO

yeah the rarity of these hoods will boost the opinion on them and will score more points possibly in shows but what the hell.... it's all in what the owner likes and dislikes about their car !!

if i had the knowledge and experience and tools needed in modifying the visual enhancements of my car i would do it all myself

so..... basically your hood is gonna be a great hood and i posted this topic based mainly on the fact to let an idea float around into others heads because duh- i do believe there are more than 25 people out there that like the hood and to not release more than that number is and was a bad idea.... and to pay $800 for it - blah, i'd rather spend it or put it towards something more worth the money

also... i'll just delete that picture then if you want

So basically, you're modifying the stock hood right?

Which means your just a cosmetic guy... these hoods from Bo Studios are not about cosmetics at all... Function before Fashion my friend...

They might be expensive but, the functionality of the airflow along with it being aproximately 25 lbs lighter than a stock hood = a few tenths in the 1/4 mile...

Your "custom" hood = looks original

I think I would opt for the Bo Studios hood....

basically yes.... the idea i have is a cosmetic mod.

i don't see why doing a cosmetic mod would be a "looks fast" issue.

if i wanted to drive a faster car i would've went over and got something that would - (too many to list but use your imagination)

but, since i bought my celica not only because it is a quick and sporty car little number - i like the way it looks.... that's what drew my attention most

and so.... basically this "looks fast" concept is disfunctional in your opinion GTS LAID

based on that reply are you saying that custom paint job is a "looks fast" campaign thingy you say ? whatta 'bout hyper white headlights? those can stay stock right ? --but if you moddifying them then what - "looks fast" again concept ? how about a bodykit ?.... get my opinion on your statement ?

here check out these -

anyhow..... my opinion on this subject has now changed - i think i should get rid if this car because of the fact there can be such inconciderate people out there that will flame on any "mod" done to these cars if it is not "functional or cool in there ideas" in this import scene (if i wanted to shave the doorhandles is that wrong too?)- too much B.S. and not worth the time !!!

i'm wanting to be one helluva custom car and not an "all about speed" import - that's what i like and that's what i'll do

do these "not look functional" ??
