Original Message from me:
On behalf of many Celica enthusiasts at http://www.NewCelica.org, I would like to inquire if there are any plans to release pistons, both high compression and low compression pistons for the 2000 Celicas.
Response:
Well, good question! As a heads up, we've got the new 3SGTE turbo pistons
due to be released at the PRI show along with the 18 other new
"turbo-series" pistons (all the popular imports)as standard Wiseco kits.
Each of these 19 engines gets their own forging design (we do the 2618 alloy
forgings in house)so internal milling (weakness) isn't needed to achieve low
weight. Now for news on the 2ZZ, We've done them as customs and I can
squeeze a maximum of 7.1cc (stock V.P. depths and diameters) which nets
13.1:1 compression when a .030 piston to head clearance is used (minimum).
This was w/ a 40cc cylinder head and a 82mm bore size (stock). This piston
had a 1.234 compression ht. (stock) so we could use the stock gasket and
quench clearances. We could knock this down to any volume you would like to
run. Now the interesting aspect is the nicasil-like coatings on the bores
(can't be overbored conventionally). We can build the pistons for standard
bore or maybe .0005 over, or you guys might start sleeving these bores at
some point to accommodate bigger bores, either way, our rings are
compatible. If you guys are interested in a group-buy of some type (lower
pricing), let me know as we're at minimum quantities on custom orders of 8
pistons and 3 week delivery. Racer pricing for 2001 is normally $130 per
cylinder including rings and pins. Feel free to post this. Thanks for your
interest! Brian Nutter 800-321-1364 ext. 3177
Just giving the heads up because despite some companies lack of enthusiasm (Greedy), there are also companies that love to jump on and make products. So keep sending out emails to assorted companies and we can find stuff.

I have a few questions though, what kind of a problem with boring does the "nicasil-like coating" on the bore pose? I know it was coated, but if we bore and take off the coating, will this increase friction and load in the cylinder?

Also with new sleeves, can we bore the sleeves, then get it recoated with the same sort of nicasil material?

Come on guys, no enthusiasm? Everyone complains about not getting stuff, but when someone is willing to make us products no one gets excited?

Yep, for those who don't know who Endyn (Larry Widmer) is, please visit his site. You'll pick up on quite a bit of interesting subjects there. But anyways he takes Wiseco pistons and machines them to his specs.

The great thing about Wiseco is that he can make pistons to spec. Dome shape, ring spacing, size etc. He can do whatever.

gnes100, Higher compression generally creates more horsepower (however sometimes they can't be run on pump fuel.) There generally is a limit to how much CR you can run before you start pinging on pump gas. IMO i think 11.5:1 is great already, but I would definitely like to see them fitted into some bigger bores.

Oh just another thing, he can make them for stock bores, stock rods and whatever may be. He thinks 11.5:1 (yes I know thats stock) and 9.0:1 should be great, not only to make but to use in our cars. What does everyone else think?

A full kit? I don't know if thats totally possible, with the exception of maybe Crower. You'd have to mix and match parts. But just bolting these parts on, if the Gude package would be so bold to claim 35 hp. I think these parts can up that by a lot. We'll be pushing 200+ easily at the wheels resleeved bores with pistons, cams, springs, valves, ported manifold, hytech header and exhaust. Dyno tuning time.

I believe this engine is truley potent. With a few mods, I think it will be a monster. I'm conjuring the pot. You guys should try to find more companies as well and post in the general forum list.

Carboy, I've been had some sort of contact with Hytech for a while, and plans for headers will begin after xmas (well because he's working on an Eclipse project right now). Personally I'm having him build me the header with an exhaust system to match.
