Well boys and girls looks like I am officially ****ed now. Since the car is un-fixable I now have the unfortunate pleasure of buying a car for her in the worst market possible:

To add to a headache of **** already dealing with a small claims lawsuit for breach of contract on my house I have to find a car in the next week or so, or basically until I want my car back and they take her car away.

So heres a recap of how last night went:

First dealer:

What do you have on your lot

Shows a bunch of used cars etc, talks them up.

Girlfriend - Oh I like this or we looked at Elantras

16,900 for a 2010 Elantra with 33k. I said nope. Going down the list 2010 Corolla with 34k for 17,000 - nope.

This goes on for like 5 minutes at which point the salesman stops me and goes what are you thinking and I said:

"Your 2010 Elantra was firesaled by the new 2011. New ones sold last year for 15,000 fully loaded if not cheaper"

Basically did the same stuff for every other car there at which point girlfriend was like stop being an *******.

I was like I am not you brought me along and asked for my opinion. Then the guy instantly senses the confusion and starts teaming up on me. Then I was like well thanks for your time and leave with my girlfriend.

At which point she blames me which I quickly turned and was like you are retarded to dealing cars. You need to back me. You basically tell someone what you are willing to pay for a car and their reasoning and then you walk.

Then she was like we will never find a car to which I said probably not you are ****ed in this market you might as well buy new.

Then we ended up looking at a new Focus for 20,200, but with my A-Plan it was down to 17,500. I almost bought it but I really don't want to deal with transferring the titling etc.

****ing Japan. On the flip side my car with a 4 banger is now worth about 14-15, which I am still willing to sell to the girlfriend for 12,500 to get into my Mustang.

**** high gas prices too.

^first mistake!!

In this day and age, if you don't have some idea of what you want (coupe, SUV, sedan) you have bigger problems than having no car, having a girlfriend convolute an already challenging process, and throwing yourself at the absolute mercy of a d0uchebag car salesman who's very livelihood is largely contingent upon your stupidity and naivete.

Having said that - the internet has a litany of consumer friendly tools and resources that are there to lubricate your entire process...from picking out exact make/model/color/options, to consumer advocate reviews for each make and model, to business reviews on the dealer himself, to informal blog reviews from corksarkers like yerself.

This way, you go to the dealer fully equipped with the info on your dream vehicle, and waste neither his time nor your valuable computer-porn time in your quest...

Godspeed son...

I already know the best cars, the prices they are worth, the option they have and what my girlfriend needs.

The problem with this is I have not had the time to car shop online due to other things and just looking last night was something spur of the moment.

Car fax means nothing except to a bank. If the person didn't do maintenance at dealers, etc how would it ever show up on carfax? That being said, unless the dealer is offering you a warranty, buying on the street is really no different.

The problem partially may be your area. I found two 2010 Corolla's under 13k with under 30k miles within 150 miles of Philly.

I'll sell your girlfriend my GT for 4.5k :)
What year/mileage. I would seriously with gas prices buy another Celica, but alas like everything else your Celica has increased in value.

On her end she ****ing hates the Celica. At first she told me that she thought I had a nice car until riding in it. She claims every time she rode in the car it gave her headaches.

The best equity situation would be for her to purchase my 2009 Fusion with every option, sans traction control, which she wants for 12,500.

That car is 3,000 under blue book, 1500 under trade value and 4-5k under dealer price.

But no she has to have the new car she can not afford.

I don't really care because driving a Fusion for 2.5 years and only losing 5,000 of the value is not too bad at all. Basically a 0 down lease.

Then I would take 12,500 and order the same speced mustang my father did. 29,200 Mustang for 23,300 out the door. Every option under the sun.

2001 with 124k lol. I wouldn't sell it to you though, it has the oil burn issue, unless you don't care about that.
I had a 2001 with 103k and I never ever ever burned oil in my GT. Vindicator (friend) did though.

I didn't understand how I didn't and as the life of the car went further into the 90k-100k range and I had to start paying student loans I didn't change oil for months at a time.

Let her buy the car man, she wants to do **** on her own then let her make her own damn mistakes. Make it clear to her that its HER car, HER choice, and HER payments, etc. DO NOT put your name on ANYTHING.
