So here is my situation... I'm only 16 and I just got my learner's drivers license a few months ago, Its still going to be 6 months until i can drive on my own where i live (Canada). I want to buy a car by then and I have a small budget (no more than $8000). I'm not even seriously looking but I was looking just for fun on the internet today and I found an ad for a 2002 Celica with only 49,600 KMs (36,820 miles) for only $6,500 (canadian dollars). Here are the details that were in the ad:

2002 TOYOTA CELICA , 2 dr, 4 pass, grey int, dark blue ext, 1.8L, gas, 4 cyl, automatic, FWD, 49,600 kms, $6,500.

FEATURES: AC Power Steering Power Windows Power Door Locks Power Mirrors Tilt Wheel Cruise AM/FM Cassette Single CD Dual Front Airbags Power Sun Roof Rear Spoiler Alloy Wheels
This just seems like a very low price to me for such a new car, from all the pictures it seemed be in good condition also. I personally I have never seen a Celica until today so i figured I would post this here cause you people obviously know a lot about these cars.
The other thing is that it is located about a 5 hour trip from where I live and i would probably have to garage it for 6 months before i can really drive it lol. so I want to know if it is really worth it or not.

so do you think its to good to be true?

i would find out if its a gt or gts. also it seems very low due to the miles on it. when you call this guy up ask if it needs work, and what work he had done on it. also i know in the us private sellers dont have to tell if the vehicle was in a previous accident. i would watch out for repainted areas or anything that would tip that off. id say test drive it i dont really know much about auto trans but i would see how it runs, accelerates, and drives. good luck.
btw check out blue book value
Damn that's a really low price for that trim and model year ... the miles don't really kill it either ... I'd be suspicious ...

+1
he probably forgot the 1 and meant 16,500.00

Cause Ive gone on kbb before and have priced out my 02' auto gt-s and have come to that being a around what a dealer would ask.
I don't think it was a mis-print because it said $6,500 a couple of times. I emailed him and asked if he knew the VIN number. Thing is that I wont be able to get out to see this thing for a week anyway because its kind of a trip, and if it really is a great deal it will probably be sold by then anyway. But ill let you guys know how it goes.
Check for it being a salvage vehicle.
Theres a 01' GT at my dealer here for $7500 with 60~k mi. It's believable.

He's also not getting it from the US, Their car pricing might be totally different

Dont buy it if it is.
well, just check it out in person :) and tell us what you think it's worth
check it out in person. and check for all the things everyone has said. make sure everything runs fine and that there is no damage or previous damage to it. what is US dollars = $6,500 canadian dollars? the pricing is pretty low and kinda makes me double think if it is a good deal or not. but the celica is a great first car to drive, it was my first car and still is. but if you are going to go into tuning, i suggest you wait and go get a manual gts. i regret not getting a gt-s 6spd, but i can't complain because its my first car and i love my celica. good luck with checking it out!
carfax.com gives you one free look at all his **** :D . after that, you'll need to pay for each report.
That is too good to be true. I had a lot of money in my 2002 GT and wtih 42,000 miles on it Carmax offered me $14K trade in for it. There is no way in hell I would have sold it for $5K. I have more than that in suspension parts, wheels, and tires alone.

Right.

Plus, 2002 has the 7800 rev limiter... :thumbdown

Mine is too, but granted I'm in the Netherlands Antilles. I agree with 2way in that sense.
