This is going to be looooooong so brace yourselves and enjoy. :chuckles:

I named the car Kaizen because it has been a continuous and relentless improvement going on through the years. My story with this car started back in 2004, before even knowing I would one day own it. A friend asked me to give advice before importing the car from the US with a salvage title. There was only light damage at the front, no frame damage whatsoever so I gave my seal of approval. Long story short he fixed it and drove for 6 months then blew the engine with 54,000 miles on the clock:

The car sat until 2006 when he found a spare engine and put it in, condition so so. I bought the car from him in May 2006 and joined the Newcelica community. The car started life like this with me:

Yep, 15" wheels in front, 16" in the back. As you can see it was a pretty straight car in very good condition. The engine that was put in had seen a lot of miles however and had a damaged crank that wasn't repaired properly so I knew it would be a matter of time until it went. The exploits can be found here:

I plus sized the wheels and drove it happily for the next few years, doing bits and pieces of continuous improvements along the way:

Yes, I climbed the tree to take that picture, was fun overall. :chuckles:

On the dyno back in 2009 after I rebuilt the engine. It didn't make much but I was happy with the SAE corrected 158whp considering it was stock except for the light porting, custom intake and custom axle back.

It was happy motoring from there and a few passes at the track. Not much attention went into the car as I was busy with the new family and some other car projects. Then 2011 came along and brought with it new wheels and tires and a TRD drop to go with them and a few more track days until 2013 when these pics were taken with the Altezza Gita:

Then the inevitable happened in October 2014:

Someone pulled out in front of me in an attempted u-turn. The car was totaled by insurance because of extensive damage to the suspension and subframe. It was definitely fixable so after mulling it over I decided it was time to do even more justice to the Kaizen name:

JDM halfcut:

The headlights had a HID retrofit done to them that was a welcome bonus. Not too bad for $375 half cut.

Getting to work:

The old powertrain went out, saved for a rainy day (or a 2ZZ swap MR-S in the future). Body, suspension and subframe were fixed. I threw in my TTE Dynamic lip along with the 2005 complete leather interior I had bought back in 2014, glass sunroof and red JDM sill covers.

The new 2ZZ got brandnew internals thanks to Shizuma's parts thread. I did a full port and polish to the head. Full set of ARP fasteners on the complete engine, balanced rods, resurfaced flywheel and new Exedy clutch, a C60 with perfect synchros, a set of axles courtesy of Speck 102. Along came a Cobb Tuning intake and Trial 3rd generation shorty header

How to fit a 1ZZ oil pan on the 2ZZ: Arm and hammer

Almost ready, just waiting for the C60

Getting prepped for paint:

And finally, without further ado, the end result with new wheels + Celica dragon bonus:

This thread really was way overdue :chuckles: I admire how you didn't give up on the car and gave it more than one chance to live again. Nice work GSBoek. The third to last picture, is that still a SRI and you concealed the filter or did you mod it to a CAI?

It looks more mean and stealthy in version 2.0.
It does aye, thanks.

Still a SRI, the filter is not concealed yet. I'm waiting for an airbox to arrive from Japan (got it for 10cts because of a small crack) that I will be modifying to enclose the filter.

Nice car and nice Dynamic lip (not TTE )
Right you are sir. I confused the terms. It can't even be TTE when on the lip it clearly says made in Australia. :chuckles:

:chuckles: Probably is, now that you mention it. I found it odd that it would be made in OZ.

What happened to the TRD Elegant lip?

I didn't know that you were in an accident! Hope all is well with you.

Kaizen is looking good and the price for a half cut is beyond cheap!

I haven't decided the fate of the Elegante lip yet. It can go on the other Celica I have or can be sold.

There was a time that I forgot I had those parts for you in my closet. It was hidden with all the other Celica parts I have in there. lol It's good to see the Celica back after the accident.

Nice and shiny, But Elegant lip > Dynamic lip
I like the fact that the Dynamic has the ducts to channel air to the brakes while maintaining the fog lights so that's the reason I went for it over the Elegante.

Thanks for keeping the parts all that time :chuckles:

how much did u have hammer on the baffle to fit the 2zz?
I'd say about 5-6mm in both directions. It needed less than that but I just wanted to make sure the baffle was far enough from the oil pickup.

Nice build/great job sticking with it.
Thanks. Once you have a car 9 years you don't really let go anymore. :chuckles:

I like the dynamic. Keep it up Gio
Thanks man. Not much else is coming, I'm just saving up for the DDPR intake manifold and then I'm done.

I always curious to see your car after all these years...

Nice job with everything. so clean.
Thanks, I'm happy with the results. Had been planning these for a couple of years already.

Interesting.

Some more track pics. Was unable to improve my times as the car is heavier now with all the things I added but it's always fun to flex it at the track.
