I think I know the answer but I just wanted confirmation. I'm pretty sure it's the first scenario, given that there's an oil pressure switch on the lift system. I can't find my PDF which detailed system operation, it explained it very well so I'm going from memory here...

fuel/timing maps for lift are activated by feedback from the lift system so when the PCM sees a signal from the oil pressure switch the fuel/timing maps for lift are used, meaning anytime at any rpm lift is on the correct fuel and timing maps are running in the stock PCM.

Or

Lift is activated by the PCM and maps are applied at the engine RPM of lift engagement, if lift is manually engaged below the PCM activation RPM then you're running on non lift fuel/timing maps.
