What if any is the best way to gain more low end tourque from the 2zz engine? I have a 2000 gts and im trying to learn as much as possible about how the engine works and would really like to know this. Do all 4 cyl engines have such crappy low end tourque?

Actually...CAI will probably hurt low end torque...

UO Pullies and Flywheel will help. Althought flywheel will make it harder to get the car going, but once the car starts moving, it helps significantly.

When I switch my TSRM back to stock, I noticed increase in low end torque.

Monkey Wrench Racing Stroker--> that aught to take care of the "low" low end torque :)
How does the stroker kit work? Can you add it to a practically stock engine?

thanks

Turbo.....definately a turbo

Two cheap mods I have done to my Celica GT-S (manual tranny) to improve low-end torque were to install a K&N airfilter in the stock airbox and use Denso Iridium Power spark plugs (IK22) instead of the stock Denso Iridium SK20R11.

I have a TRD exhaust (version S, TRD Japan) on order, so hopefully until the end of this month I will know how this affects the low-end drivability.

manual or auto? yeah you guys know what's coming.
manual
Good Answer! That means you can use the PowerFC (autos can't). As Blue Bomber said definitely get a AEM/TPR intake or TRD/TPR exhaust. It is the combination of these mods with the tuning (or somewhat hehe) of the PowerFC that gives you a big increase in low-end torque.

I was going to say lightweight flywheel but someone beat me to it. No, it's not hard to get started as one person said. Different, at first yes, but after several days, it's easy taking off.

And just like getting the lightweight flwheel, by getting super light wheels you'll increase your wheel torque/whp all over...low, mid, high.

Regardless of what some may say, STAY AWAY from the Unorthodox Racing (UR) CRANK Pulley. The other ones like AEM or UR alternator or UR water pump are ok. You may get the smallest amount of low end torque increase you'll ever feel from these pullies (besides the no-no crank). You can do a SEARCH on the crank pulley if you wish.

To answer your question, no. It's all about Volumetric Efficiency (VE), which is a measure of an engine's ability to draw in the air/fuel mixture to its cylinders and discharge it. The less air in, the less torque and power that can be made by the engine. Increasing displacement with all things being equal increases VE and thus torque and hp. Forced induction which forces air in further increases VE. Technology and tuning influence VE, as so do tons of other factors.

So in general, the (more economical) N/A 4-cylinder cars that perhaps have less displacement than the GT-S may have less low-end torque. btw, do note that the GT has more low-end than the GT-S before the GT-S has been modded with basic bolt-ons and tuned with the PowerFC. Both are 1.8 L and N/A so evidently there are other factors at work.

Those 4-cylinder cars with F/I and/or more displacement than the stock GT-S, would generally have more low-end torque.

The only bolt on that i have is the injen cai, but the thing is that ever since i put it on the torque seems to have gone down. When i searched the site to find out what could be wrong i read something that said that it could be do to the fact that i put the intake on the car. (something to do with the o2 sensor not being able to sense oxygen in the bigger diameter tube or something) Anyway im very confused

I've seen the TPR name everywhere, but where are these guys?

I've tried their website, but it's claimed for a future website by one of those site drones.

I'm interested in getting an intake and exhaust, but I have yet to be able to find them or anyone willing to part with their goods. =(

smaller header and smaller exhaust piping will push the torque band down and along with that lower your hp. due to (torque * rpm / 5252 = hp).

basically increase gas scavenging (or how close the air particles are together coming out your exhaust) will increase your torque.

Injen does give inconsistent results in the low-end. Try using the Blue Bomber mod. Either that get AEM or sign up for TPR and wait.
