That 12.3:1 CR seems awfully tempting. Although I wonder how well they would work with 92-93 octane and a good PFC tune. If they work well, I might have just found my christmas present to myself :D

For the extra 200 monkey wrench is installing them right? cuase thats an outragious mark up
I would totally spend the money for those pistons. The extra $200 costs way less than re-sleeving. Mahle is an awsome piston manufacturer.

The key is that Mahle iston is using an iron impregnanted coating - the other coatings are comonly just going to be a resin or dry film lubricant. The iron coating is what was designed by the factory to be used with the 2ZZ bores - it is going to work best and last longest

well both sites are for Mahle pistons, info on the other site

It is composed of hand deburred, forged, performance coated pistons, high quality steel pins, round wire locks and low drag performance rings.
Performance coatings include a phosphate dry lubricant that is used to protect against ring micro-welding and pin galling during initial startup and break in. For added performance, MAHLE applies its proprietary Grafel anti-friction coating to each piston skirt.

Yeah but thats not the OE friction coating, thats just a dry film & graphite lubricant.

so nothing needs to be done to the block before popping these in? no honing (sp?) or anything like that, right? how long would the break in process be for these?

correct - break in is just the standard 500 miles to seat the new rings.

if your planning on staying under 400whp, i dont think you really need new rods, the 2zz rods are pretty meaty, nothing like the 1zz rods. 1zz crank in a 2zz is only necessary if your going to stroke it, which is a whole different game....
