Overrated yes, but the ZO6 better whip it, being a newer performance platform. Back in 1993 the Supra was on top of its game, that probably set the stage for al the hype surrounding the Supra and the bomb-proof 2JZ-GTE block. That 320 horsepower was underrated of course according to some reports.

$42,000 was pretty high back then of course.

On street tires yes, likely 12's. There is one guy here who ran a best of 10.76 in his with DR. I think he's putting down something in the order of 510 whp and his Supra is streetdriven. He races in the StreetLegal competition, which is exactly what the names says: a league for streetdriven, DMV legal cars.

I still remember that article, don't have the mag anymore though. The MkII was pretty good for its time (1982).
