On 16th street here in DC an Acura NSX pulled up to me at a light and started revving. It was a 1997-2002 model so it made about 280hp/224tq. My Evo IX is conservatively factory rated at 271hp/273tq. It's stock.

We did 5 runs about 1/3 of a mile each between stoplights. I pulled on him all 5 times and lost one run because of a slow 1st-2nd shift. I won one run by default due to a really poor launch by the NSX. So it was 4 for the Evo, 1 for the NSX. I beat the NSX every run by I won by a car length or more.

Afterwards the NSX driver (old, fat, bald) pulled alongside and rolled down his window and asked "is that thing turbocharged?"

you should of told him no about the turbo charged question make him feel even worse.
They aren't like the SRT4s with a recirculating BOV I don't believe. I believe you can hear their BOVs between shifts.

Nice runs Ben.

You can't hear the BOV at all. The turbo is pretty loud but it doesn't spool much while the car is standing still or revving for a launch (wastegate is open) and the sound can be lost in all the exhaust and engine noise. He didn't have his windows down and was behind me most of the time too.

...and how exactly do you know that? btw its 290hp/224tq, 0-60 4.9, 1/4 [email protected]

your car; 0-60 4.7, 1/4 [email protected]

so it's not really like you we're the underdog. Yes your car costs a lot less but it is still faster. but nice kill anyway

No real suprise. AWD vs. RWD from a standstill, the AWD car will most likely come out on top all things being equal.

There are a lot of numbers floating around for that era NSX so I picked one of the higher estimates, they were meant for approximation purposes only. I knew what era the car was by the flip-up headlights and the wheels.

...."is that thing turbocharged"...good lord :chuckles: that guy does NOT deserve to be driving an NSX
what do you have to do to "deserve" to drive a car ?

that guy shelled out $90,000 to $30,000 (dunno when he bought it, new or used) - In my mind, that means he deserves the car - you don't just drive an NSX for no reason - its for enthusiasts. Most guys my dad's age probably have no idea what an EVO is either, doesn't mean they don't deserve to get their 911s one day.

Nice kill
I certainly would expect the EVO to win. Must have been something for the guy to be owned by an "Econobox" as some non-believers like to call the EVO and STI.

I'm a diehard Toyota guy, but I do have a soft spot for the NSX (probably it and the S2000 are the only Honda products I like). I don't know how heavy the EVO is but the NSX is around 3100 and is handicapped also by considerably less torque. Otherwise I think they were pretty closely matched so props on the win.
