Trying to fix post... Wth...

I hope you guys don't find this immature or anything... But I am having a huge problem...

Lately, I have been pressing to buy a car... Originally my first thought was the Celica or the tC... But after seeing both in real life I was not too happy about the quality... But after seeing the s2000 in real life I fell instantly in love... Like I needed it to live... And now I am running out of time and I need to purchase a car... Now or never...

The s2k is around 25k for used... (My parents are forcing me to buy from a huge dealership(s) :x) and that is pretty expensive... And since I am only 17, my insurance would have it's hand in raping me too... But the car I love so much seems so close... Yes I can afford it (Insurance/Taxes/Caritself) but it would be expensive and more work hours... I want to get it so bad and I know either decision I make... I will regret... Is it worth working five years of your life for? I honestly like working right now (Maybe it's the thought of getting paid to do stupid things) and my parents understand my situation but they can not help me out in my choice either... (Of course my parents don't like the idea of me driving a 2seater converatable, but it's not their money... And they know that too)... I did take a look at other vehicles but everything seems so... Not me...

Isn't it possible that if I do get into some kind of trouble... I can just sell the car? I believe the s2000 does keep it's value better then other competitor cars...

Any opinions before I make my decision?

you're 17. you need to focus on other things like getting an education so you can pay for bigger things than a s2000. there is a time for everything. if you can't afford it, don't get it. there are more important things to spend your money on.

Take a test drive of both. Both cars were rated one of the most fun to drive cars out there sometime around 2001 (S2K #1, GT-S #2), so you won't go wrong with either when it comes to an entertaining ride. BTW, what parts of the Celica and tC did you not like compared to the S2K when it came to quality?

what is the point of this post?? Mabey the fact that a honda can last 150000 miles and still run just fine.

i suggest you get a cheaper car either honda/acura/toyota. Just so it holds its resale value and you get great reliablility. You will find out how small and impractical an s2000 is. Even though the s2k will be one of the most fun cars to drive i only see it as a weekend car. Get a gts/rsxs/TC/matrix. Test drive them all and see how you like em. The celica and rsx are both great daily drivers and fun cars to drive, plus it isnt fun working XX amount of hours a week just so you can pay the monthly on the car and still not have any money to spend on yourself.

The problem is... I don't see anything else to spend money on right now... Except a car... And maybe some college money...

I didn't like the giant bulge on the headlight... I also don't like the new styles with the very ugly bodykits :x Also I found out that the Celica had a higher insurance rate then the s2000 ... I was shocked... But I really like the s2000's interior... Racy and 2 seater... A reason not to put people in your car... ;p

The tC was out right horrible... I even experienced the radio door problem myself when I was just looking at one with no radio IN it!!! The transmission problems scared the crap out of me and the fact that it has to go over 3500 rpms to stay at 70mph scares me... It looks nice however... I also do not like the Scion brand... And how it appeals to young people... I don't want to buy something that markets stuff like the xB... :x

I was actually thinking about the RSX-S... But I'm not a big fan of the styling... Infact the main reason why I love the s2000 is the styling... remember I don't plan on buying a new S2000... I plan on buying an old one for about 25k... Your right that I shouldn't work so hard for a car and not have any money for myself... But what else should I work for? and it's not like I'll be eating cup noodles for 5 years... There is still a margin of profit for me to have... And I really don't mind the small trunk space at all... I'm not planning on moving anything big except people ;p (And I don't like it when more then 2 people are in a car with me >:/)

And I wouldn't be working more then 40+ hours a week might I add... I figured around 25 hours was the bare minimum for a safe payoff for the car... although I DO NOT MIND working more... But I also don't know what might happen later in life... New commitments... But I can always sell the car... right?

Are you asking us to convince you to get a celica, if so you got my vote. But if you want an s2000 that bad just get it. B/c from what you've told us an s2000 pleases you in all senses, and then the fact that you don't like the newer model celicas. It just seems to me you already have your mind made up.

You can sell the car, but you may lose a few thousand selling it for less than what you bought it for.

Don't waste your money on something you don't want. If you have any doubts about getting a GT-S or whatever other car, DON'T GET IT. You will end up dwelling on your decision, "Err, I shoulda gotten that S2000," during those 25 hour work weeks. At least I would.

I dunno, it sounds like you're already ready to sell the S2K though you haven't even gotten it yet. You gotta decide what you really want. Don't get a car (if you need one urgently, borrow one, buy a cheap old used one, or lease one) until you are certain about this big investment.

As for me, I hesitantly decided on a GT auto 4 years ago and spent 4 years regretting it until I finally got my standard GT-S... ended up spending more in the end but I'm happier. (But now I want the Lotus Elise or Toyota's upcoming answer to the 350Z).

I guess my point is: get something you will be happy with for now.

Why not get a cheap car, then save up for the newer S2000s when your older and have more experience? The newer S2000s have a 2.2L engine rather than the 2.0L from the first models. So why not get a "conservative" car then in a couple years get that S2000.

Sounds like you will be spending most of your income on this car when you figure in the car price plus sales tax, registration, insurance, gas, etc. It will be around $600+ per month. If you plan on leaching off of your parents for the next 5 years, then I say go for it. If you plan on having to pay for anything like school books or moving out of your parents house, food, etc., then you are a dumb ass and I hope you buy the car. So basically I you should buy the car either way.

my first car was a 99 ford escort zx2. i hated it so much that i drove it erratically because i didn't care if i wrecked it. that brought me to a $470/month insurance payment on a $170/month car. in other words, don't buy what you aren't dying to have. on the other hand. let me tell you that having a huge car payment and insurance payment will kill you when you move out on your own. did me. my credit is completely shot now and i'm only 21. keep looking around and find something else that you can fall in love with. there are more fish in the sea. oh... since you're 17... you're parents will be finiancing this, right? think about this... 25k / 60 months = $416 / month. that's before financing charges (~$2k plus APR), tax, title, tags. you'd probably be looking somewhere b/t $450 and $500/month just for the car. try paying rent, utilities, cable, phone, food, parties, gas, insurance, etc on top of that

Your better off just buying which ever will be cheaper right now. Although you say your car is ALL you put youor money into right now since your young ( trust me , i know that feeling since im 18) Things will come up that you need money for and you will either be cutting it really close to your payments or you wont have enough. think about it this way....

Would you rather have a cheaper yet nice car and be able to not have to worry about if your working enough hours this week so you can pay for it and you have some extra money so when things DO come up you can get them.

or

Get the s2k right now because you made your mind think you HAVE To have it, when you really dont.
