I recently bought a 2002 GTS with the 4 speed automatic.
Love the car, goes like crazy on the highway but noticed
that when it's cold in particualr or when below 3K RPM
there is very little power. In fact when cold and in "D"
you can even floor it and it will barely move.

Somebody tell me this is NOT normal and I need to have
it checked out. I know it's not a muscle car but the low
end power is worse than the Neon I got rid of.

Any ideas?

yeh the celica isnt a torque monster so their is little power under 3k rpm. iono about automatic but my manuel 02' gt-s is slow until about 3.5-4 then kicks up power

Celicas are cold blooded by nature. They take forever to warm up. Drive it very easy until you have two temperature bars deflection on the temp guage. NEVER hit lift without 2 bars....it won't engage. I think you'll find that if you let it warm up you'll get that performance back. It's nothing to brag about but it's gotta be better than a gay neon. Yes, but only if the GTS driver has no arms or legs, is just a head on the pleather seat...
