I took my HKS muffler certificate, the USA SEMA laws, and the VA Laws. http://www.machv.com/virginia.html to show the judge that I mean business and not just another car enthusiast off the streets. I will try to find you the SEMA laws. But the VA laws should be enough.

Have some questions ready to ask the cop, this is a court room, you get to explain your side also, do not let yourself look ignorant, ask the cop questions, put him on the spot! The following questions are the ones I asked, he FAILD ALL OF THEM!

1.Officer _______, you say my exhaust was too loud, can you describe loud?
2.Officer________, can you tell me what the Virginia state law is for max decibel reading?
3.Officer________, on the night of the ticket, did you have a decibel tester? No? than how do you know what decibel reading it is?
4.Officer________, did you test my exhaust decibel readings? No? Than how can you make the judgment that my exhaust was too loud?

Hope this helps, I got to go to work right now but if you have any more questions let me know. THE ONLY WAY TO BEAT COPS, IS BY THERE OWN GAME! Good luck!

I got pulled two days ago for my first exhaust warning. The Young Trooper told em that the code says that "parts must be replaced with "like OEM" equipment. He didn't write me up, but that is what he said. I asked him if that meant that the Flo-Masters underneath my Camaro were illegal as well, and he just repeated the code, smiled and left me alone. It sounds to me like they don't even know what the hell the law is.

You won't win.

Ok, for all who posted fight it and bring the documents to court IT WILL NOT HELP.

If you read the law in VA it states that the exhaust cannot be louder then stock. No matter what.

Yeah it's an old and ghey ass law. I got pulled over and fined a ticket for my TRD exhaust.

What is probably going to happen:

You are going to have to pay the court fee of $45 + whatever the judge gives you. Most likely $80. But if you get a nice judge he will say take off the exhaust take a before and after shot of your car with and without the exhaust bring it back to court and he will wave the fine.

You STILL HAVE TO PAY THE COURT FEE though. Sucks.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am going to try and get a new law passed in VA to have it changed and I have SEMA backing me up.

At this point, I'm going to make a point of contacting Sen. Colgan by late summer and seek his sponsorship of the SEMA model exhaust noise legislation.

If you or anyone else wants to help out I can give you the NEW re-written exhaust law to propose. As well as the Sen. Colgans number.

Unfortunately there is nothing you can do now, until this summer since they stop taking submissions.

Good luck in court.

Did you get the ticket in VA? What kind of exhaust do you have? When you say you won, you mean that the Judge HAD to let you off or was it he decided to be a nice judge and let you off?

The reason I ask is because I can use you to get my money back, seriously this is what I call unfair justice.

Leah, onw of those papers i gave you says that the exhaust is 50 state legal. the other one says that it meets CA emmision standards.....take the one that says 50 state legal to court...also bring up the fact that he can't judge decible level with his ears and the law i written in max decible level...
