I'm not sure if the recal rumor is legit, but I had to return mine the next day upon receiving it as a gift from my gf. Basically the first day I played with it, played like 4-5 hours that night. Next morning, it wouldn't read any of my PS2 games nor would it play any DVDs.

I don't know what the real issue was with mine, but could of been a faulty laser or something about overheating. The new PS2s get hot very easily. I was able to return it to Best buy since they had several returns the day after Christmas concerning the laser. Until then I haven't gotten a replacement. I'll wait til they sort out all the bugs and wait for the gen2 to come out. 1st gen consoles usually have major problems.

I don't see anything on the Sony site concerning recalls, unless someone can link us to it.

Not an official source, but I do go to school with a bunch of Game art and design kids who always got the new scoop on this stuff.

Exactly what I'm thinking. If this was true, this would of been in the Sony site under the Playstation category of " Consumer Alerts " Nothing is listed in there concerning the new slim PS2s. I guess with mine, i was just stuck with a faulty PS2.

the problems with the new ps2 is that the fans cannot keep the system cool enough during long hours of gameplay.

i heard that before i bought one...from the place we bought it from, they i forget if they said it didnt have a fan or if it had too small of a fan... i've never had probalems with it though, i accidentally left it on all day, i came home and unpaused it and kept playing it was all good....

mine is the armrest glove compartment lid now....it fit perfect for me....
