i was looking into buying a 2001 or 2002 GT-S
within the next 6 months or so and was wondering if you guys liked the cars and if they are really quick and what kind of competition there is out there?
You know just give me an idea of what all i should expect out of a GT-S?
appreciate it

First off, welcome to the forums <IMG SRC="http://www.newcelica.org/ubb/smilies/cwm11.gif" border=0>.

Second off, the GT-S is that quick
.

<a href="http://www.newcelica.org/other/track/list.asp" target="_self">Here</a>'s a list of quarter mile times for some of the Celicas on the forums. If you want to see a magazine review, the Motor Trend on newsstands now has a comparison test between the Toyota Celica GT-S, Acura RSX Type S and Mitsubishi Eclipse GT (Celica has the best lap time of the three
).

I was just checking out that link to the times. Someone has posted a 13.65 with intake and exhaust, no mention of NOS??

His mods list is "Injen Intake, TRD exhaust and much more", I'd guess "much more" is a 50 shot.

The GT-S is quick but only if its the 6-spd, the auto is slow and will be beaten by GT 5-spd from a stop.<IMG SRC="http://www.newcelica.org/ubb/smilies/cwm1.gif" border=0>

yeah i read that article in this months motor trend and the RSX seemed to be a little quicker overall but the celica beat the GT and had better handles and brakes than the others but i'm still not sure about these celicas.

Why dont you guys tell me why you like yours so much and whats so great about it.

Oh yeah is there a crapload of performance for it or is it just so-so.?

I don't have a 6-speed, i have an automatic. And to me the automatic isn't bad. I love my car because of the way it looks of course, and you gotta sit in one. You'll love it.

test driving the car is the best way to get a feel for it. I remember I test drove a honda civic, an acura integra gs-r, and the celica. The integra was nice, pricey, but when I revved high, didn't get a response, and the shifter was tight. The civic had a nice shift pattern, loose kinda, but it was slow. And the celica was just an overall awesome package. Comfortable seats, great acceleration, fast, nice handling. The only thing I don't like about it is the bad blindspots. Oh well, I aimed my mirrors towards them and no worries. Anyway, just go for a test drive and see how you like it.

You have to like it CHRISPY. It won't really matter what anyone else says about the car. If I were you, I'd select a manual or auto and test drive one from a couple of different dealershipss.

As posted, the Celica is a great overall car; MotorTrend lists much info on it, as well as a nice comparison test. The only other cars I was seriously considering were the Mustang GT and the S2000. I'm glad I have the Celica though. Aftermarket support is average, but will be better in a couple of years.

I think the best way to evaluate what you want is to actually go and test drive the cars you are interested in for yourself.

We can all tell you what we think about Celicas in general, but it doesn't replace the actual "hands-on" experience when you test drive.

Good luck.

I have a GT-S and an S2000 at my house.. I love both cars.. the S2000 is more race bred but the celica is soooo much more fun cause you're not afraid of going a little past your limits.. S2000 will punich you harshly though if you go past your limits or hers...

Test drive the car but my recommendation is of course the 6spd... in a an already fun car it makes it 3 times more fun

Check December's Motor Trend (as previously mentioned vvtlikick). It'll basically tell you that for 16-30 yr old demographic (meaning most of us), if you want a car under $25K, go with the GTS. The RSX-S is a good car, but I've driven both and I liked the GTS better in overall performance and the all-important coolness factor.<IMG SRC="http://www.newcelica.org/ubb/smilies/cwm11.gif" border=0>

Its strange, but everyone here where I work that has an RSX or RSX-S is over 40 while the GTS drivers are from 25-30. That may say something about popular opinion and what's important to a particular age group.

Personally I like the Celica GT-S. It must be because I own one, but The car overall is very sweet! I got mine with all black leather, and all the add ons, I got it in 6spd, DO NOT GET THE AUTOMATIC! The 6speed gives you a lot of controll over the car. There is no compaints from me about the car I love it! Although my clutch went at 13k miles, and I didnt do a damn thing to deserve that! :p
