I've read a alot of threads about our tranny's braking do to anything from to many high rpm shifts to high rpm clutch dumps with slicks. By ours I mean the 6spd in the GTS model.
I also read up on the C20 or somthing like that, which swaps in a 5 spd gear set. I'm not all that excited about losing the 6 speed just to add some torque and HP to the Celica.
I can understand the syncro's going out when you miss shift at 8300 rpm. That will ruin just about any sync in any tranny, but the broken teeth and shafts are an ugly thought.
Are you guys using heavy wt gear oil in the tranny? Redline or Motul maybe. I know we used heavy wt Redline in our GTR's over in Japan. It helped with the 1st to 2nd shift with drag radials and all four wheels grabbing for traction. When most of the tranny's are braking, is it from driveline shock? Or simply to much torque applied to the tranny. I'm more then willing to go through clutches if slipping is required to save the mission, and I'm fine without slicks.
I love driving the Celica, but I'm already growing tired of it in NA form. Building the turbo kit for it is fairly on the easy side if you stick with the log style mani. But as everyone on here whose ever driven a car on boost knows, once you have the ability to turn up the wick, you will do just that.
Basically, have we exhausted all of our options? Has anyone takin a tranny to a specialist shop for analysis? If not, does anyone know of someone whose willing to part with a ruined tranny to send in for an "exam"?
