Pioneer Sound Quality Back from My JVC? Speaker Recommendations?

418 Views 11 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  wtcnbrwndo4u
I purchased a JVC HU with GIGA MP3 and USB connectivity that will do vid - I really wanted those features. Now that I have it in with the stock speakers (went around the stock amp in my GT-S), I'm a bit disappointed that I don't get the highs I normally get from a Pioneer HU.

I mean the sound's good, but every time I have gone into an audio shop and listened to components - for YEARS - EVERY time I want to go with Pioneer because of the fidelity, quality, and cripness my ears hear.

So, I want to keep my HU but I want the sound I like. Pioneer's also nice because it's a bit less expensive usually.

I tend to think that the more expensive speakers really need to be driven by an amp in order to get the quality sound back out of 'em. I'm happy enough with the power of my HU and am thinking I don't need an amp.

I went to Crutchfield for ideas and they claim that, for the fronts, 6.25s are best and that, for the rears, 6.5s are the best. I don't see any seperates from Pioneer in that size. Any recommendations for the crisper highs?

I think the rears are really about fill and some bass. I tend to believe, then, that the less interference with the big skin the better. In other words a two-way at most, not a 3- or 4-way so that the bass can get out. Any recommendations there? Again, looking fill, some bass perhaps, but helping retain the fidelity my ears prefer.

If it affects your recommendations, I'll insert here that I have an Infinity Basslink that I've not decided which car it's going to go into. However, if installing it gives me the best options for the other (8? hah!) speakers then let me know what you'd do with that option thrown in.

Ultimately, I'll visit another stereo shop, but I'd like to whittle it all down. Besides, they never seem to have what I really want to hear most of the time.

Thanks any and all for input!

I guess an HU can have a difference with settings. :)

Just get a Pioneer amp. For speakers, you can't fail with the Pioneer A-series (not components, just speakers). Same goes for the D-series. D-series will hit harder, but the A-series sound better overall.
I was thinking about putting Infinity Kappa's in my Celica. What do you guys think about those speakers?

Very good again. Can't go wrong with those.

You also can't go wrong with Eclipse Audio. :)
I just bought a Pioneer DEH=p4800 HU and also an eclipse in dash DVD. I think I'm going to install the Eclipse DVD and sell the Pioneer because the Eclipse is touch screen and it looks better. But the Infinity speakers I've had them before in a t-bird and they sounded awsome. Do i need to amplify them? Cause if I do for the best performance I want to buy an amp also.

Install the Eclipse, no doubt. And yeah amp the speakers. You'll get way more power than if you were using the built-in amp (most average around 22x4 RMS). You'll need a lot more power if you want to play out the potential of your speakers. Match the RMS of your speakers at least. :)
I was thinking about getting a JL 500/4 or something it that quality range for interior speakers(infinity kappa) I already have a 2 jl 12w3 subs in a bandpass powered by a jl amp. My car rattles all over I'm affraid my wing is going to fall off one day.

So you believe the best approach, in order to get the fidelity I'm looking for is to install a Pioneer amp and THEN worry about speakers? Just putting in Pioneer speakers won't get that sound like I like it?

Just want to clarify.

Also, I'm no audio tech, what specs would I really be looking for in an amp? 4-way I presume since there are 4 speakers? watts, etc.? Thanks, sorry for the ignorance.

Lastly, if I put just speakers in the door, can I daisy chain to the stock separate? Is there one of those ... filters ... inline so that only the highs get to it?

AGain, sorry for the ignorance, but looking to take back my thread... :D
Well, didn't mean it exactly in that manner, but yeah.

If you don't have the money to buy them all together, get the speakers first. You will hear the difference. Then to get most out of your speakers, get a 4-channel amp. Pioneer also makes one (GM-6200 something). It supports 80Wx4 RMS, which is also the RMS of those A-series speakers. :)

BTW, what do you mean by that?
I have infinity kappa's installed- powered by an alpine 4 channel 75x4 amp- veryyy clean sound. The car's also dynamatted to keep sound in. for Bass- i just use the infinity basslink. It serves its purpose and has decent bass.

edit: and Yes- buy an amp. It makes a huge difference. Try to buy a new one rather than used.
I meant, if I get speakers for the front doors and they are NOT separates, can I still wire to the stock separates, daisy-chaining from the new door speakers or on an spliced in run? I understood that some kind of frequency filter - so only the highs get through to the separates - existed either in the stock installation or they're used by others?

And thanks!
As I'm understanding, are you saying that you install new speakers and use the stock tweeters?

If so, why not. Just splice the wire. You'll get some power going to the tweeters. Look at how the tweeters are hooked up currently. Then replicate it. I believe it is just spliced, but I could be wrong.
