I always hear the term port and polish of the head to get more horse power , exactly how does this work and how is it done?

I think it just makes the gasses flow better. Picture water running down a rough piece of concrete vs, a smooth piece of glass. Smoother = less resistance = exits faster = more entering = faster.

i think the port is bigger and polish is the smooth. its done by machine shop.

Port = reshape and smooth runners
Polish = make the surface inside the runners very smooth

You don't want to make the ports bigger, just minor changes to their shape and smoothing out.

This process was pretty involved and made huge gains on prehistoric V8s, which had terrible cylinder heads. Modern engines still benefit, but not as much.

if your looking for more power this isnt cost efficient compared to a turbo kit, ive got about 2500-3k in head work and its not much compared to the gains you will see from a turbo, this is only something you should consider if your going all motor or have already built your motor and have a good turbo setup and are looking to squeeze a few more ponies out of it, mainly top end.

be careful who you have do the PnP, sometimes more harm than good. take it to real experienced pros and ones who flow test on a flow bench before, during, and after and give you the results.
