Hey guys just reg'd a minute ago. I'm in the market for somewhat of an upgrade. Right now I drive a 95 integra w/ 240km; she served me well but its time to part ways. So i've been looking at a few gts and the sound of the engine has me hooked.

I've looked at 1 with 119 km and one with 200km, '01 and '00 gts respectively. I like the mods and paint on the 200km but the mileage seems a little high. But everything done to the car is basically exactly what I had planned for the 01.

How many kms can I get from it would you guys estimate? for the price I can get it i was thinking of swapping for 2zz with less kms on it which would bring the price to par with the '01/119km gts.

That being said I've searched a bit and seems like the 2zz's are extremely hard to come across. Does anyone know any toronto sources?

thanks for the help guys.

Wish I could help you man.......but I used to hear that the '00 and '01 models were the best Celica's in the 7th gen to get because Toyota introduced the drive-by-wire crap in the '02+ models and also the '02+ models the fuel cut was like 7850 rpm I think? At any rate i'd go with the '00 or '01 model year Celica GT-S (which has the 2ZZ-GE you are looking for) though i'm not sure if they kept the GT-S designation outside the US......but you are definetly on the right track it seems unless one of the mods comes in.....i'm sure they'd know.....

ya we have the gt-s's. Not too many around but we do for sure. Any idea on how many miles you can get? I mean its a toyota engine and I know the body goes before the block does usually but I mean I wouldn't want to invest in a 200k-km car and find i'm SOL in 40kms.

I know what you mean about finding GT-S's......around where I live there's hardly any for sale.....when I got mine I was lucky,it had the 6-speed,the mileage was good (56k miles and it was back in '06 when I bought it) and it was clean.

At any rate......wish I knew how to calculate KM to the miles we have here in the states........but if it is any help in the forums there is a Canadian forum....they may be to help you much more than I can in your search for a sweet Celica.Best of luck man!

yeah i have a 2000 gts, it was pretty hard to find. The 2000 model has a fuel cutoff of 8300rpm and the lift kicks in at 6000rpm so you can land in lift in every gear, where as some of the later years it kicks in a 6200rpm so you can't. But still wouldn't buy a car with 200,000km on it and im sure if you keep looking you'll find what your looking for.

Not that its too relevant, the DBW addition was added in 2003. With the exception of not able to modifying/upgrading the ECU easily, I dont see the downsides to DBW throttle in my opinion. Less moving mechanism compared to drive-by-cable, therefore not needing any adjustment of the cable. I have a 03 GT-S manual, the gas pedal precision feels the same as day one. The 'delay' people claim to experience when full throttling does not seem to be happening to me.

Since I'm here, I have to vote the 03-04 the best year to have. The facelift is refreshing, but only celica admirers could notice the actual difference of 03+ vs. 00-02.

For the 9999th time:

03's changes, for GT-S,

-revised liftbolts
-optional HID's, (00-02 owners: dont pretend u wouldnt want this stock)
-power antenna
-a more interesting looking JBL headunit faceplate
-JBL logos on the door speakers
-darker interior (the light grayish on previous years celica makes the car look older than it is)
-perforated leather (if u have leather seats)
-updated speedo fonts (better? up to u to decide)
-new tailights
-new rear-hatch plate
-new front bumper
-removal of foglights on Action Package equipped celicas (personally i'm against this)
-fuel cut-off back to 8300rpm

Thats all I could come up with, anyone 00-02 owners thats offended, i dont care... haha..

My lift kicks in at 6200rpm, and i can land lift in every gear. So its driver-dependent.

I own a 2000 GT-S,and i'm not offended.Sure,HID's would have been nice but as you said they were OPTIONAL.Meaning I would have been really lucky to have found one with. The newer style liftbolts I don't care about only beacause they cost a couple bucks a pair.Easy to get.The power attenna....meh.....go with an s2K one.Don't care bout the JBL crap.I got leather seats, which I like.As for the updated speedo fonts that I never seen........you wouldn't happen to have pics of yours would you? That i'd wouldn't mind seeing.Tails people either tint or swap out for aftermarket.Rear hatch plate? Are you talking about where it has 'Celica' engraved in or whatever on the trunk lid?As for the front bumper I thought that was part of the Action Package that also included side skirts,a rear lip and the big rear wing,or are you talking about the non-Action Package Celica's?Didn't notice they pulled the fogs out of the Action Package Celi's.Also you mention 'Fuel cut off BACK to 8300'......did they change it in the 02 model?Far as I read on the '00 and '01 model GT-S's the fuel cut was at 8300 RPMDid they change it?

I'm not trying to be a d!ck just i'm asking......I don't mind being corrected.A little insight always helps.

thanks for the replies guys. As far as the differences between the 03s, I swear the 01 gt-s I looked at had the JBL logos and possibly perforated leather. That I will have to check again but its the only one I tested so I'm faily certain I'm right. Then again this is a canadian gt-s so i'm sure theres differences.

@TCgts ya the 200km is a huge downer for me, which is why I was looking around for a replacement engine but like i said they seem to be hard to come by even considering they are used in the matrix/corrolla xrs.

I think I'm going with the 119~km gt-s. Needs some body work but nothing extensive. THanks again guys. If anyone knows any sources for low km 2zzge engines i'd still like to know.

Rumble-I was just thinking of monkeywrenchracing.com......I never looked to see if they sell 2ZZ-GE engines that are low mileage without mods but I do know they sell 'em modded depending on what you want to spend and they carry a lot of other parts for the 2000+ Celica's as well since it is one of the cars they specialize in.I'm not sure how much different emissions laws are in Canada but definetly check them out.All I can say though really is that is one place to start anyways. As far as the body on the GT-S......what kind of shape is it in?Just curious.

this is a picture i found with the updated fonts and new JBL headunit faceplate. As well as the darker dash/interior.

You dont have to care for the updated components, but its just a mid-cycle change. You certainly could swap out anything u like, tailights, S2K antenna, etc. I'm just happen to be one that has retained the 03 look. "The car only makes 180hp, but its ok, I will turbocharge it to 260hp." If one isnt a heavy modder like me, the updates sure makes the celica somewhat more interesting.

Again its all my opinion.

6-speed GT-S:
Fuel cut for 00,01,03,04. 8300rpm
Fuel cut for 02, 05. 7800rpm

Auto GT-S, 7800rpm for all years.

Non action-package celicas receives revised front bumper for 03-05.

Thanks for the pics.....was wondering what it looked like.Yeah,it's a matter of personal taste on that one.Personally i'm happy with what I have on my '00 GT-S,but yeah, someone else might like the newer look that you have on your '03.I met this one dude once out by where I live that had a 7th gen GT-S and said his was an '02 and it was modded......not heavy or anything......but he had that newer front on it.He was gonna sell me his CF Vis EVO hood and CF mirrors for $500 but why I didn't buy off of him was because a)He claimed he paid $900 for the hood and said it was backordered (sounded like a LOT of BS) and b)......was a real good one too and I forgot just now but he seemed a bit shifty......I know i'm way off subject now but at any rate I didn't trust the dude.

As far as you retaining the " '03 look"........you have the action package?Looks like you do from your sig......yeah if my Celi had that i'd keep it too really.I just lowered mine the other day, mine is stock body-wise and it looks nice.I want to get a Wings West kit though, even though it is similar to the Action Package in terms of the sides and rear lip.......

Yeah, I have the factory kit. It really flows with the car. I played around with modding in the beginning, now I'm more focus on repair/maintenance so my car keeps running strong. I undo-ed several mods, i.e. my injen short ram intake, aftermarket foglights, B&M shortshifter, reverse indiglo speedo gauge, and HIDs(my car didnt come with OEM HID). The mods which are still in my car that are worth mentioing: KYB AGX shocks, Tein S-tech springs, dome LED light, and aftermarket front speakers with amp.

I dont mind a set of good looking 17" rims, but figured I had my car for so long, dont feel like wasting any more money into it, heh. I DIY my own cabin filter yesterday, and installed my new tires onto my stock gt-s rims. Feels great!

Yeah the Action package looks nice.....not too many of them around where I live though.I'm the opposite of you though.......in the sense that I want to add more mods to my GT-S,but of course it's a matter of opinion on what you want to do with what you have.Right now my Celica is lowered on a set of Enkei EVO 5's and they look nice and they are 17's.Here's a pic I took yesterday after I washed it.It was taken with my cam phone though......

I bought them as a set w/tires from edgeracing.com and I paid with shipping like $1,020 for them and the tires I have on them are 215/45 Toyo Proxes 4.They stick nice with the Tein S-techs and the Tokico Illuminas.I'm happy with it. :)
