Hey everyone. So last month I decided to get an air intake on my 02 gt. Well in the "people usually buy these together" section, I saw a muffler with great reviews. I decided "what the heck," and threw it in the cart. Well the intake came in and it was for a Honda (Dumb Amazon) so I sent that back any got the muffler put on. Since then, I have had a noticeable drop in my throttle response in the lower RPMs. If I give it too much gas, it revs up really high without actually going anywhere.. Any ideas what to do or add to help? I have heard about back pressure and I am wondering if I made a mistake. Thanks in advance!

Here is the muffler

Haha, no it's definitely not that. I didn't expect much of a HP gain or any for that matter from this muffler. But for real, if replacing the stock headers or manifold or anything will help, I will do it.

I have read a lot about back pressure and exhaust and how they affect your rpms. That's why I am assuming it has to do with the muffler because it only started recently. Granted, it is a stock clutch on an 02

If you floor it, and the revs climb and the speed doesn't, it's the clutch.

It just happened to start going bad right as I got that muffler installed sadly. Thank you all who help correct me. You guys are awesome.

Could this also be causing a decrease in gas mileage? I get 22 in town when I used to get 28 or so. I'm installing my new air intake tomorrow morning to see if that helps.

Wait, did they add that on the end and left the stock muffler in place or cut out the stock and ran new pipe with that at the end?

So you still have the big muffler box before your tip?

I took it to a shop and I was told it was the clutch now. Like, say I release the clutch after a shift and I give it gas, sometimes it will rev up to about 4k, while the car barely accelerates, then falls. Then the car begins to accelerate. I am in Valdosta.

If the engine freely revs and barely accelerates when you step on the gas, it is definitely a worn out clutch. I would think it would be the worst when you get the car moving from a stand still.
