I can consider 60k... but not 70k for the GTR. A BMW M3 cost about $60k when fairly loaded. So does a Porsche Boxster S. Certaintly the faster and legendary GTR can do reasonably well with a 60k price.
60k? overpriced and overrated for sure. I'd wait and go for the new camaro/challenger, which both will be ..alot cheaper.
The new zo6 will still be the better bang for buck I'd dare say...Good luck to Nissan fighting off that

Edmunds inside line has new pics of the GTR and vids of it lapping laguna seca. From the video, they said its a couple tenths faster than the Porsche 911 turbo.
996 or 997 ?

Honestly, Im horrible with Porsches, They just said 911 Turbo in the vid.
judging by the video and google images, its the 997.
if the GT-R breaks 8 minutes at the ring and the new M3 doesn't, I might have to put it back on my list.

ehh nope, link pls.
At least my hating of Asian import cars gave me enough common sense to never even think about buying a $60,000 Nissan.

That's ridiculous.
It would have been smarter to make it an Infiniti. The Fast and Furious crowd are the only people interested in it being a Nissan (nobody else knows/cares about the history of the GT-R) and 99% of these people can't even afford an Integra. You'll only see GT-R in the "tuner" community as shop cars and magazine whores.

Meanwhile, Infiniti is stuck with the unenviable problem of selling more cheap cars than expensive ones. They have essentially become the "G35 Company" and have styled pretty much everything for the future based on the success of their cheapest model. An expensive "halo model" would help downsell more G35s I think. Nissan already has a 30k sports car, the addition of the GT-R isn't going to change much of their image. It would make a big difference for Infiniti though which hasn't been able to break through in the "expensive luxury car" arena well at all.
^^ :werd:

As stupid as it may be, brand identity and Americans go hand in hand. How else do you think Mercedes is able to sell some of it's lower models for $30,000 when Kia and Hyundai make $20,000 cars ("top models") that are superior in almost every way.

Should have made it an Infiniti. Not that I would buy one anyway (or could), but I'm positive more people that could afford them would if it wasn't a Nissan.
...and if they had branded it Infiniti, they could have tacked on $15 -20k to the price.

Realistically the niche market for this car is going to be an upscale buyer that's a) male b) is deep in a midlife crisis c)making $130+/year. Not some tuner kid who lives in the GT-R Grand Turismo pipedream, fantasy world.

Of course there are going to be the exception to this (i.e. kids with [email protected] parents that give these cars as "sweet 16" gifts, the overly indulgent 20/30'something person who leases everything in life (while making $50 g's a year - and thinking they have "earned it") to portray a lifestyle they can't even begin to afford, and probably live at home.

Basically, IMO this car will be a flop here. As mentioned before, there is no GT-R heritage in NA...nor will there be. Nissan is really making a stupid move thinking that that a BMW M3 owner is going to be WOWED be ANY Nissan that ever hits the market...regardless of the cars obvious potential.
I've beens saying this in every GTR thread out there

Nobody wants a $70,000 (once options are done) Nissan

That's Porsche 911 money - at this point, most people buying the car really couldn't care about performance - they're over 50 and just want it to cruise around in - they're not going to take the car to the track.
I don't want to pay 60K for anything with an engine that's also found in a Pathfinder and a Quest.

There is no excuse for the GT-R having a VQ variant. This car deserves a bespoke inline 6. Every GT-R has had a special-edition straight six except this one. The new GT-R is for all intents and purposes just a twin turbo AWD Z with a different frame.
