Today I was looking under the hood of my car, and realised it looked horrible, not only was it dirty, but the top of the engine had white corrosion on it, along with the alternator and a few other parts.

I tried using goo-gone engine bright+steel wool, it got rid of the white part, but where the stuff was is dark spots, how the hell can I get rid of these obscenities?

Those dark spots on aluminum bits can't be removed I think, they go in deeper than just the surface, aluminum is prone to reaction.

Baking soda and water mixed together work well for that stuff..and for battery posts buildup. Engine degreaser might work.....I usually go to a car wash bay and use either the engine cleaner if they have it or the tire cleaner on there...and then let it sit for a short time and spray it off.
