Royal Purple Gear Oil....

This stuff is phenominal.

Negatives:
-Expensive, but you should only need to put it in your car once.
-The performance of the fluid is consistant with Redline in that it takes the engine warming up (About 5 minutes) before it peaks

Positives:
-Shifting is like butter. Beyond belief.
-Best performing gear oil I have tried yet.

Summary, I have been using Valvoline Gear Oil for the first 2500 miles of my new engine. Shifting has been stiff and hard to get in gear sometimes, as if the syncros were made of concrete. I was hoping it wasn't the tranny. I mean it's been a year since I drove this car, so anything could have happened in that time. Well, I was changing my oil and adding Mobil 0W-30 (also great stuff) and decided to make the change in the gear oil. Wow. Day and night. I cannot believe the difference. I could not be happier. The TRD clutch and B&M shortshifter can now be utilized as I'm not affraid to put them to use anymore.

I haven't used Redline yet, but I'm sure the perfomance is very simular based on reviews I have read on this board. The reason why I chose Royal Purple is it is what we run in our race cars.

Sypnopsis (sp):
Valvoline Gear Oil 75/90- Dogsh!t, worse than Toyota fluid that comes stock
Toyota Gear Oil 75/90- Great for street use
Royal Purple 75/90- Gear Oil of the Gods

is there a way to see if you have enough tranny oil in ur tranny? i recently changed my tranny oil to redline and i think i didn't put enough oil.
If you guys want factual and scientific answers as to what oils are good and safe you should go and ask over on these boards, they are awsome and have data to back up thier answers

BTW the people over there do not think higly of Royal Purple engine oil because of a few Used Oil Analysis reports on it, but those are not conclusive.

About Royal Purple or Redline having products that could hurt your syncros I think that both companies make gear fluids with Sulfer in it. Sulfer is bad for yellow metals that make up the syncros. The Redline oil that you should use for the Celica is MT-90. I'm not sure about the different Royal Purple oils. I suggest that you ask questions about oil and lube over there. You can get some very educated answers.
GT-S Celica: If you want to check your tranny fluid, open your fill plug and stick your finger in there and feel the fluid. Oh yea the car shoudl be level when you do this.
so if i could feel the oil, i'm ok? thnx i'll give it a try...

Redline MT-90 is only for auto or manual transaxles without LSD. With LSD they recommend 75w90.
75w90 for Royal Purple as well.

Right, but Redline state that their GL5 75w90 is twice more corrosive than their GL4 fluid for normal tranny without LSD.

Royal Purple's fluid that's compitable with LSD contains less sulfur than the Redline counterpart. That's why I will be switching to Royal Purple.
Does the stock Toyota gear oil contain more sulfur than either Redline GL4 75w90 or Royal Purple 75w90?
i use Royal Purple in both, engine and tranny oil... i have nothing but high regards for them both... and i plan on to continue using it with my LSD when it's installed along with the car being boosted...

Hmmm. Didn't know that about Redline. I think Redline is still a great product, but I am really happy with this RP, and I think you will be too. I don't know how much, if any, difference you will notice since you are going from one great product to another.
Has anyone else used BG Syncroshift? I have that in my tranny. I can definately tell the difference. But don't know how it compares to Royal Purple. I bought a tube of this at a Nissan Dealer and added it to my tranny fluid.
Best manual tranny fluid ever: GM Syncromesh. That's it, that's all.

Redline is as good as Royal Purple. The reason I'm switching is because I'm getting a LSD and the best Redline fluid for the LSD is corrosive to our bronze/copper synchros but Royal Purple are safer.
i have lsd and was thinking of trying Redline. but since you mentioned it i think ill just wait and stay with amsoil for now.
Deaks2: Do you know what weight/visc the GM stuff is? I've looked everywhere and have no idea. No one seems to know.

So do you have anything informational about the subject of gear oils to add to this thread? Or just shooting off at the hip about non related issues?
Dude, I was just messing around and pointing out the obvious. How less informative was my post than Immortal's? He laid out no factual evidence of anything just posted a general "i know this guy and he says XXX" statement. Anyone can do that, this is the internet.
Just a little sarcasm that's all......

Ok Amsoil rep.

The last thing we were talking about was tranny fluid/gear oil and NOT engine oil?

I take all those Amsoil tests with a grain of salt.
Those test are done by separate labs. Not affiliated with Amsoil. I am not an amsoil rep. I just use the stuff and have for years.

If you don't trust those, Maxima forums has numerous people that have done their own testing.
