Automatics also make worse drivers. In an auto I can (theoretically, I don't do it) talk on the phone and smoke a cigarette at the same time. Not so easy to do in a manual. Driving a manual forces you to pay attention a lot more.

Agreed. When I see SUV drivers do that it bugs me.

NOT applying make-up, eating, talking on the phone, but READING.

My brother can smoke a cig, drink a soda and talk on the cell phone while driving his tundara. And he shifts it with his knee. As stupid as it is it's quite amazing to watch

i saw a guy with a taptop in his lap driving one day... needless to say i was happy when he made his turn (no signal, swerved, slammed his brakes, etc)

I've shifted my Tacoma using my knee before, if i'm on my cell...usually i try and stay off unless its my parents or gf, than i'll try and make it quick.

Sad, but true. Aren't they banning the use of cell phones while driving in California in the near future? (I can't remember if it's 2007 or 2008 ...) Would text messaging count as cell phone use?

I'm not gonna lie, I both talk on the cell phone and use it to message people, but IMHO, holding a real live conversation with a human being is much more attention-grabbing and distracting than typing a text message.

yeah to make it worse mercedes have a brake assist thing for their car so soon people wont have to worry to step on the brakes cuz they think the car is braking for them

Not to mention that new Lexus (I think) that parks itself. IMO, that's bad news waiting to happen.

My brother texts when he drives... Or picks up phone calls... I think texting is more attention grabbing than a phonecall.

I got hit from behind while stopped and had the Corona totaled by somone putting on her makeup. Classic. I'd like to the see the technology that smacks someone for doing something stupid before the accident. That would make us better drivers.
