When supercharging an engine is it best to lower the compresion or raise it. I know if you run high boost from a turbo you lower it, but is it the same for a charger.

Yep, it's the same. and the higher it is, the tougher it is to tune, and the less power overall can be made as cylinder pressure starts out higher before boost is applied...

unless of course you're talking all out race engines, I've heard more and more stories of pro guys running normal compression with lots of boost.... basically run it a few times and rebuild it type of thing.
