You mean back when horror movies were really horror and not the crap that's put out now?

Horror back then: blood, guts, slashing, messing with your head.
Horror now: 5 minute "suspense" scene with "creepy" sound, main character usually walking slowly making the audience real attentive of the scene, then suddenly something drops, pops up or enters the room, catching the audience off-guard and effectively "scaring" them.
