So my wife and I live in Northern Illinois and we want to move out to the West coast. I was thinking about Tacoma, WA, it's close to Seattle and decently close to Portland.
We plan on taking a trip out there this summer, to see how we really like it.
I live in the Lynnwood area which is about 30 mins from Seattle and 3 hours from Portland. Living so close to Seattle there isn't really any point to go to Portland
I grew up in Auburn. 30mim from Seattle. I like the area. Day trips to Seattle and the water front are possible. The beach is about a 2 hour drive.
Im not much of a city person. Im in Beaverton, 10min from Portland on a good day. About 1hour 30min drive to a nicer beach. Where I'm at Im close to the country so a lot of nice back roads for a nice cruise.
I moved up to the PNW from Socal about a year ago and can recommend the Portland area if you consider living a bit farther south. Low cost of living comparatively, good air & water, decent people and no sales tax!
