So I got my car back from Toyota of Bowie yesterday. I drove it home.

This morning I was going to go to the store for some wiper blades and headlight bulbs since my wipers are crap and 1 of my lights is out. As I get into my battleship and take the helm I realize that I havent yet pulled out my radar detector that I left LOCKED in the glovebox since I dropped the car off. I unlock and pull open the glovebox and what do you know? Its been stolen. Yay. My $300 Escort 8500 gone. At least they were nice enough to lock up my glovebox after the piece of shit who took it had done his deed. So like a flash I drive down to the dealership, start talking with the service mgr, on of the sleaziest people Ive ever met, about what happened. Of course I know Im going to be met with the "not responsible for personal items left in the glovebox" on the work order that I signed when I dropped the car off but maybe I hoped he could be a gentleman and own up to it. Nope. I get fed line after line of contradictory BS and I reciprocate with laughter and correct him about his self contradiction. He doesnt seem too amused. SO, I go into tough guy mode which wasnt hard to do- I just had to pretend I was sitting here at home on NC.org and I told him:

"Look, I dont give a fuck whether or not your techs make upwards of 100K a year, or how responsible you "think" your $8 an hour lot attendants are. The fact is someone from THIS dealership stole PERSONAL property from my car. Its as simple as that. If you arent ready or man enough to own up to it, then you and this dealership will have a problem."

At this point he is amazed that someone smaller than he is reaching over his shitty desk and pointing a finger right at his face. He seems threatened and tells me to calm down.

"Why the eff should I calm down? My property didnt just decide to up and leave the LOCKED glovebox unless the ONLY key that I have to my car that was in YOUR posession for the last 7 days unlocked it. There is not a goddamn mark or sign of forced entry on my car or GB so fucking own up for your workers mistakes."

I say in a calm voice "Look man, I know you didnt take it, but its fucked up that you refuse to see the truth in this matter. I apologize for yelling at you but what would you do in this situation if someone stole 300 bucks worth of property from you?"

He told me that he wouldve probably acted the same way. I agreed and he offered to try and follow up on the matter. I know nothing will be done, but at least I got to ruin someone days over it.

He told me he "wouldnt let it rest".

Yeah, well neither will I. You cost me $300 bucks, Ill cost you $300,000.

werd up eddie. Its the principal of the whole thing. He knows someone took it, I know someone there took it. It pisses me off that he wont act on it. I asked him to go ask each tech to open their toolboxes at work and have him look through it. He refused. He said that was private property. I told him it wasnt since it was on their private property and if no one stole anything, why would they give a sh!t whether or not their own manager looked through drawers of tools?

i talked to the manager and owner on several occasions, they did nothing, i called toyota coporate and they said that i'd have to take it up with the dealership. I filed a claim with BBB and claimed it on my insurance. I'm getting a clarion touch screen. Not as nice as my alpine, but it will be ok

straight up file a police report against toyota

make sure you get get the cops in the show room floor talking about how toyota stole your property.. talk LOUD

regardless of whether the police are about to do anything about it or not.... its super bad publicity....

if that fails... do as one of my friends does.... place a sign in your window that says " TOYOTA THEIVES ****ED ME... ASK ME HOW " and sit off property, and near the enterance for a few hours. he says the tatic is amazingly effective.

btw, sorry to hear about that man, it pisses me off... but don't bend over for them.

If you get the police involved they will **** their pants.

Some dude got the cops involved when his car was stolen from our lot and the manager bent over backwards for him.

A. That sucks.

B. 2 things that could have easilly prevented it. Give them your valet key. Or take the $300 easily stealable palm sized detector with you.

Since B is now moot, see A. Do one of B next time.

I thought I told you to REMOVE EVERYTHING FROM YOUR CAR! I know it sucks, it's happened to me too. Maybe you can try the police route since that's a lot of money to lose. *hugs*

I only have 1 key for the car. The only one in existence that I know of. Read above jimmy. I know I should have taken it out of the car, but I didnt and now its gone. Its funny, they left the 2 walkie talkies I had sitting in the car alone. Well I have to go. I have to get to the autoparts store for a bunch of bottles of brake fluid and to Wal Mart to buy several Super Soakers....

Dont ask.

somehow I think a trunk monkey would have come in handy here. Teach it to beat anyone who enters the car not working on it.

btw, sorry to hear about it Brian. I know I'd be pissed too.

sorry to hear that Bri. If you need to borrow a radar detector for the time being, I have an awesoem 80's Cobra one. It's about, I don't know, light years behind the Valentine, but it does pick up road work signs.

That sucks brian. Look at it this way, it gives you an excuse to get a good radar detector now.

BTW, you really need a beer now....

Sorry to hear about that Brian. At my dealership pretty much anyone who works there can touch the cars so it could be any single person inside that dealership.

Sorry to hear the news chap. Keep on them. Bitch at the regional service director as well. Go as high as you can. They'll pay you $300 to stop bitching.

(I was planning to drop the car off at the garage today for alignment and assorted other services. It didn't start. F'n battery. :))
