So I got my car back from Toyota of Bowie yesterday. I drove it home.
This morning I was going to go to the store for some wiper blades and headlight bulbs since my wipers are crap and 1 of my lights is out. As I get into my battleship and take the helm I realize that I havent yet pulled out my radar detector that I left LOCKED in the glovebox since I dropped the car off. I unlock and pull open the glovebox and what do you know? Its been stolen. Yay. My $300 Escort 8500 gone. At least they were nice enough to lock up my glovebox after the piece of shit who took it had done his deed. So like a flash I drive down to the dealership, start talking with the service mgr, on of the sleaziest people Ive ever met, about what happened. Of course I know Im going to be met with the "not responsible for personal items left in the glovebox" on the work order that I signed when I dropped the car off but maybe I hoped he could be a gentleman and own up to it. Nope. I get fed line after line of contradictory BS and I reciprocate with laughter and correct him about his self contradiction. He doesnt seem too amused. SO, I go into tough guy mode which wasnt hard to do- I just had to pretend I was sitting here at home on NC.org and I told him:
"Look, I dont give a fuck whether or not your techs make upwards of 100K a year, or how responsible you "think" your $8 an hour lot attendants are. The fact is someone from THIS dealership stole PERSONAL property from my car. Its as simple as that. If you arent ready or man enough to own up to it, then you and this dealership will have a problem."
At this point he is amazed that someone smaller than he is reaching over his shitty desk and pointing a finger right at his face. He seems threatened and tells me to calm down.
"Why the eff should I calm down? My property didnt just decide to up and leave the LOCKED glovebox unless the ONLY key that I have to my car that was in YOUR posession for the last 7 days unlocked it. There is not a goddamn mark or sign of forced entry on my car or GB so fucking own up for your workers mistakes."
I say in a calm voice "Look man, I know you didnt take it, but its fucked up that you refuse to see the truth in this matter. I apologize for yelling at you but what would you do in this situation if someone stole 300 bucks worth of property from you?"
He told me that he wouldve probably acted the same way. I agreed and he offered to try and follow up on the matter. I know nothing will be done, but at least I got to ruin someone days over it.
He told me he "wouldnt let it rest".
Yeah, well neither will I. You cost me $300 bucks, Ill cost you $300,000.
