Okay, this one is going to probably take a rather knowledgable gear head but i thought i would try it out anyways.

On some engines(maybe all),there is a butterfly valve near the intake manifold, that i believe is actuated with a vacuum.

1st question, is this correct?

2nd question, does anyone know of any kind of switch that could be placed in the vacuum line to enguage, disinguage a similiar feature. to block the flow of air down the vacuum hose persay.

yes the celi does have a butterfly valve in the stock air box....most people just put in an aftermarket intake which also removes that valve, but if you wanted you could just remove the valve keeping your stock intake. many people have done that as well.

no no, thats not what im talking about. i am trying to find out if anyone knows away to actuate something with alot of holding torque constantly. but i think i found something out

Vacuum is normally controlled with VSVs (Vacuum Switching Valves).

Now as for butterfly valves near the intake, are you talking about the ACIS system on an old 4A-GE, the dual length split manifolds on many of the V6 & V8 cars, or something else?

ah, u can just take it out. also, the bfv is pluged directly into the intake manafold.

not that kinda butterfly, not the ones you find in the stock airbox. I am talking about on cars other than the celica, but i found out they, are actuated with a cable from the foot pedal. I think i found a way to use compressed air. thanks for the help anyways.
