Who is denting their 18's?

So I'm looking for rims, and going back and forth between 17's and 18's. I live in Michigan, where potholes that can swallow dogs are very common. I know I'm pretty safe with 17's, but will I be safe with 18's? I don't want to dent my rims everytime I hit a bump.

Also, any pics of 17" and 18" RH 5000's?

I believe 18's are more likely to bend more easily than 17's.
are u planning on getting a kit? If you are, id go with 18's. you might regret getting 17's. To avoid bending the rims, just drive carefully, and be on the alert for those huge potholes.
18's z5000's in the sig. they are a soft rim, just watch for holes as much as you can.

"oh look! there's a pothole. hmmm....I think I'll drive right into it!!"

who does that??

If avoiding bent rims were that easy,
I WOULDN'T HAVE PHUCKED MY WHEEL JUST YESTERDAY!

You certainly have driving issues Nate. You get scuffed in driveways. :chuckles: We all know its not easy.
bent one of my 18" Volk TE37's...let this be a lesson to everyone- stay the hell away from 35 series tires :D only thing is- i don't think 40 would've made a difference...i hit that b!tch going 60

good news- i got a new rim to replace it with and blue volk wheel locks... ;)
i've hit pretty big bumps going fast and my rims are still not dented.. (knock on wood).. but i have 18's w/ 40 series tires..

that's not funny! unfamiliar driveway's = scraped up rims(not bent, mind you;))
So if you have 18"s which tire size is the best in order to avoid denting or bending the rim??
I'm about to buy 35 series tires (215/35/18) from a member so I would like to know before forking over the $.

Thanks guys.

I said scuffed mind you. Curbs are still curbs. :chuckles:
I hit bumps all the time and no problems. The only things that I have ever hit that damaged a wheel would have damaged a 17" wheel and probably even the stock wheel.
how much is he selling his for? i'd sell mine cheaper :D
I would advise against 35 series tires -- chances are you'll mess something up sooner or later. I'm on my third set of 18s...
ToyoGT, what kinda wheels you selling and how much? Just wonderin...
Well, thanks for all the input. I like the look of 18's, but I don't think I'm going to want to risk it. As for avoiding problem spots on the road, fuc$ that. In my Jeep Cherokee, I snapped my sway bar link on the Ohio Turnpike in a construction area. And mind you, these were heavy-duty ones. I put on an average of 750 miles a week during the school year, and about 200 a week in the summer. I drive too much to have my eyes glued to the road and watch for bumps.

As for a kit, I don't know yet. I'm going to drop it first, then get some rims. I will probably end-up making my own body kit. I like parts of some kits, but nothing overall. I'm just taking parts of kits and using them for my designs.

Again, thanks for the replies. 17's are on my list now.

I live in michigan, near detroit(i'm in detroit quite a bit) and my 18's are fine. There are scratches from pebbles and stuff, but i figure there's nothing i can really do about it. I'm never gonna have my car in a show anyways. You'll be okay as long as you get the 40 profile tires and swap them out in the winter
I've experienced no problems so far with my 18'' SSRs with 225/40/18 tires and trd drop. In fact, I jumped a curb a while back and both the front and rear rims on the drivers side hit the curb one after the other, and the only damage was a small scratch, barely noticeable after touching them up, on the lip of each rim.

lame? i aint the one that ****** up my rims. im just saying to be more alert. avoiding a bent rim isnt that damn hard too. i know hella folks who got 17's -19's on their daily driver for a few years, and the rims are still in pretty good condition.
