*Warning*

This thread may contain spoilers. You've been warned. That is all.

George R. R. Martin is currently in the process of writing a series titled A Song of Ice and Fire. So far he's only published four books of the series, the fifth comes out July 13th or something like that, and there will be two more after that. Maybe even a third, Martin is unpredictable.

I've made a few comments here and there about these books and how much they mean to me. I'll give my biased opinion of them in a nutshell: His series is hands down the greatest piece of science fiction work-in-progress ever created. Yeah, I said it (again?). I initially read them when I was a sophomore in high school and have been hooked like a fiend since. There's not a single person I have recommended this series to that hasn't come back to me with complete adoration, admiration and a sincere form of respect for the series.

A common comparison used against Martin's series is Tolkien's LOTR series. In my opinion it's tough to compare Tolkien's fantasy world of Middle Earth to Martin's fantasy world of Westeros when the two authors existed in such vastly different times. To say one is better than the other is turning a blind eye to the realities of what was available / creative for their time. Both authors wrote a series (Tolkien albeit an incomplete series, and which I sincerely hope the same doesn't occur to Martin - the old *******) which does and *will go down in history as great works of literature. But take it from me, Martin's series is better, with more depth to the various POVs and a much more dark style of writing incorporated within. Dark wings bring dark words.

Any Harry Potter fans out there? This HBO series casts a huge shadow over that childish magic wand crap. Martin pisses on Rowling. :fawk:

Tonight, history makes itself. At 9:00pm EST, HBO will be airing the first episode of the first book of the series, A Game of Thrones.

And guys, if I haven't won you over yet, then what I'm about to say surely will.

Gentlemen, OT is all about the tits and pron right? I promise you sexy hot tits, asses, lesbian sex scenes and hopefully the occasional slit slip throughout the duration of this series. There are several extremely vivid sex scenes throughout the series, as well as the occasional minor sexual encounters, all written in the books with ecstatic detail. Hopefully the cast is as beautiful on screen and in character (and nude!) as I imagined them to be in my head when read on paper. Probably not though :chuckles:

I felt compelled to give ASoIaF a royal welcoming to OT upon it's grand release of the HBO series, so there it is.

As I lay here in great anticipation of the the first episode, I realize it is now time to satisfy my raging hard on for the umpteenth time today.

Enjoy the show, and remember...Winter is coming.

Nice. I liked Spartacus: Blood and Sand to an extent, but for the most part I thought there was too much "hollywood" thrown in.

T&A's were nice. I could have done without so many Dolf-cack scenes though.

She's supposed to be 13 and married off to a big pedo bear....er horse lord.
:chuckles:

And the best part is, we get to see a "thirteen year old" on screen nude many times. Even a lesbo scene. Emilia Clarke is no Brooke Shields though.

There's also incest, giant sex, baby killings, rapings, slaughterings, blasphemy through and through each varying religion, and more and more dark ****. Armies of eunuchs, slaves, dragons, wargs, direwolves, zombies (well, they are called wights and Others in Martin's world), human baby sacrifices to Other unknown gods or forces, and lots and lots of twisty plots throughout. The whole big picture is still in question.

Emilia Clarke is fvcking smoking hot anyways. Who cares if she's portrayed as a thirteen year old or not, she is legit in reality and that's all that matters. See next argument for further reason as to why it's all the better.

Let it be known here and now that men and women mature faster in Martin's fantasy world. You'll notice some of the main characters, such as Jon and Robb Stark (15 and 16 alike at the start of the series I believe) have full beards and appear to be too old for their part, which is false. They appear this way in the books as well. Daenarys, who at the beginning of the series is a thirteen year old girl has recently "blossomed" as Martin likes to say, and will be shown nude on screen as an underage girl who is more than womanly enough to fvck. Let your inner pedophilia inhibitions run rampant my friends.

I already told you, this series is extremely dark.

I still need to read this series. Its on my TBR list but I've been getting hounded to get reviews out for other things.
If you watch the series before reading the books, please be open minded with your opinion. You and I both know books are better than video.

Be prepared to test your short term memory. Starts off with 7 or so pages on one character, then jumps off to another, then another, then another, and after you've been through a dozen you're back to the first one. heh

Secretly a pedobear? Sweet!

Like Skooter said, I'm not much into medieval stuff, but it does sound interesting.
I wish I had Premium cable or whatever you label it. :sadpace:

Neil Gaiman's American Gods is reportedly HBO's next big project after Game of Thrones, which is another great story. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Gods

Can't wait for the Dark Tower movies to be released either. Supposed to be done up as a trilogy.
I still need to read the Dark Towers series. I've heard only great and terrible things about it.
