That's like asking what ZZT231 means.

It's just a chassis code, FD3S and FC3S. FR is what they say in Japan for RWD cars. Not sure why, but I can guess it's like Front steering Rear wheel drive, fs FF which is Front steering Front wheel drive... That's just a mneumonic device for me to remember it though, who knows what the right one is

FR is not a japanese thing. It stands for Front engine Rear wheel drive. FF stands for Front engine Front wheel drive. MR stands for Mid engine Rear wheel drive.

I don't believe the NSX is considered a roadster.

MR stands for mid-engine, rear wheel drive.
true, MR just means mid engine, rear wheel drive. in fact, the car can have the engine in front of the drive and still be called a MR as long as the engine is NOT over the front hubs.

technically speaking, yes, but when a car manufacturer says their car is an MR, it means the engine sit right behind the driver/passenger but in front of the rear wheels.
Front-Midship layout is what your talking about. The engine sits in front of the car however behind the front axles. 350z and S2000's are FM layouts. I guess one can say these cars are FMR, lol.

Sorry your answer seems a little incorrect, The FR code in japan (maybe other places too since it’s a logical terminology) it stands for the following: FD = F(Front mounted engine), R(Rear wheel drive, (Engine Drives the Rear Wheels)). Its other alternatives are the FF and MR. FF = F(Front Mounted Engine), F(Front Wheel Drive (Engine Drives the Front Wheels)). MR = M(Mid Mounted Engine) most likely 2 seater car with engine directly behind driver and the driver position is slightly in front of cars centre line that the engine occupies giving the car best centre of gravity, this setup is mostly found in sports cars especially Formular 1 (F1) cars. R(Rear Wheel Drive) Engine Drives The Rear Wheels) 4x4 = engine drives all four wheels however due to engine placement even 4x4 will have their own subdivision categories like the 2 wheel drive FF, FR and MR. In Japan the terminology FC and FD that you will here in anime most likely Initial D and Project D and their sequel MFGhost are the car model variant numbers (chassis numbers) for the Mazda RX7. FC = the Mazda RX7 Manufactured from mid 1980’s to 1991 and FD was its successor Manufactured from (Maybe 1992 but) most definitely 1993 to early 2000. hope this clearly answers the question.
