I was curious if anyone else with a GT-S has ever tried to put in 89 octane(mid-grade) gas in their car. If you does it run ok? or was there engine knock?

Just curious since gas prices have been going NUTZ.

dont even try it, the higher the engine compression the higher octane gas u gotta buy. whats the gt-s, like 10-12 psi? since the extra additives helps keep the gas cool enough so that it can be properly ignited by the spark plug instead of exploding inside form the heat caused by high compression. the explosion is also this so called "knocking" sound that u hear about, it also damages the engine.

god i hate thermodynamics

i did when i first got my car bc the stupid sales guy told me i could put in regular. so instead i put in the middle one and my engine did make clicking noises and rattling. sounded like there were rocks in my engine. better not do it.

If your compression is only 10-12 psi I wouldn't be worried about what grade of gas you put in it. The car would be broken. The compression ratio on the GT-S in 11.5-1. Anything less than 92 and the car isn't to happy. It'll run but not well because the ECU is compensating for the lower octane and retarding the timing.

It's a good thing you never did hit lift when you were running the lower octane. I'd hate to think what would have happened. :AF:
