My 01 celica just hit 100,000 miles couple days ago and i thought i should give it a tune up. what else should i do besides replace spark plug, spark plug wires, timing belt, and water pump? Does the 01 celica use timing belt or chains? and also, what brand spark plug and spark plug wires should i get? I was thinking about using MSD spark plug wires, what do you guys think? not sure what to go with for spark plugs. Thanks for the help

The Celica uses chains and direct ignition, so no timing belt and no sparkplug wires. Sparkplugs either Denso or NGK Iridiums.

yea its an 01 celica Gt.

from what i am understanding i need to replace the timing chain and spark plugs (i think i am going with NGK iridium since my boyfriend use it on his civic). is there a water pump on the celica? for the air filter should i go with the TRD reusable air filter or the K&N reusable filter or should i get a short ram intake?

anything else guys, keep them coming. need to do the tune up soon. thanks =)

no you dont need to replace the chain, just the air filter, oil, oil filter, tranny fluid.

use OEM toyota oil filter
K&N air filter is fine or upgrade to an aftermarket intake
5W30 oil
if auto use dextron III ATF fluid, if manual use 80/90 gear oil
use IK20 spark plugs, direct replacement, no gapping required

when do i need to replace the chain? Where do i get the IK20 is that NGK?

i've just recently replace the oil and oil filter already using mobil1 synthetic and oem toyota filter.

According to the manual, you should measure the length of 16 links. If it's longer than 122.6mm, you must replace the chain. If you're there, replace the piston rings as well.
IK is Denso (one of Toyota's brands). You need IK16 not IK20.

You should replace all fluids:
coolant
transmission oil
power steering fluid
brake fluid

Check and replace the brake pads, clutch, etc.

On average a Toyota engine with 100K doesn't stretch the chain beyond specs. Doesn't make sense to do all the work of getting the chain out to check it at 100K. Heck, my '84 Crown with 234K hasn't stretched the chain beyond spec. :)

Denso Iridium Long Life 3324 SK16R11 .035" (Original Equipment Manufacturer and/or Original Equipment Equivalent) $9.35

Denso Iridium plug 5303 IK16 .035" $11.99

Why is the long life one cheaper? Which one is better for a GT? A search shows IK16 and SK16 both being recommended :S

When you make it to 200K if you want to pay to have the chain changed by all means do so. They might take it out and find it's still within specs unless you somehow overrev the engine from now to then ;)

I don't know dealers in the US, but here it doesn't matter as the prices are the same at the dealer and generic autoparts stored like NAPA, Autozone etc.

Here's what you will need to do for a major service.

Fluids:
change Motor oil
change Gear oil
change brake fluid
change power stearing fluid
change coolant

brakes:
clean and adjust front and rear brakes
adjust partking brake

Motor:
replace spark plugs with Denso or NGK
replace air filter
replace oil filter
clean MAF sensor
replace water pump (if you haven't already done so)

Tires:
rotate all four (4) tires
check pressure and adjust as needed
check spare tire pressure

Inspect:
Hoses
Brake lines
Exaust system
Cabin air filter (replace if necessary)
Clean battery
All Joints in the car and grease as needed
Motor mounts
Lighting system (front and rear and replaces as needed)

replace Water pump???

BTW, 100K isn't the major service point. 60, 120, 180K etc. are.
