hey wat do u guys think about doing a 2zr engine from 09 corolla it has cvt contious vavle time adjustment and it has a 10 compression ratio on the pistons so i think this would be a great swap for f.i? i mean if our c60 tranny bolts up and the engine mounts are the same but im pretty sure they should be the same since they did have a 2zz and 1zz in before i doubt then changed the engine mounts, so i wanna hear anything good or bad things people know about this engine i mean id rather get swapp this engine and boost it if its possible to 400whp then building a 2zz cuz 2zz is expensive to build even thou i have a new one sitting in my garage and im thinking it should be fairly cheap to pick one up at junk yard in about a yr?

Wait, you're thinking about replacing a 2ZZ for a 2ZR? Not many people swap in less powerful engines. Also, I don't think you'll be looking at 400hp anytime soon for the 2ZR, it's only 1 year old and people will much rather spend their time on the bigger 2AZ.

i know im reviving an old thread but i had to post some info

Still a 1.8, only different
Other Corollas still have a 1.8-litre engine, but this 2ZR-FE unit is completely new. Equipped with dual variable valve timing, it could even one day incorporate a variable valve lift system, like BMW's pioneering Valvetronic, says chief engineer Soichiro Okudaira.

extending its leadership among automatics).
a recent interview with a toyota tech signals that like the 3ZR-FAE a 2.0 little engine with Valvematic VVTiLi i think thats the acronim its little brother the 1.8 2ZR will also be getting valvematic, or maybe wishfull thinking XD

Now with this new info could this new engine when it comes out be a viable replacement for the 1ZZ
At current time i know the only tru replacement is the 2ZZ however with new technology
these new engine could be small enough to fit in our cars and still pack a migty punch

The SPecs i read on the 3ZR-FAE are interesting and if this holds true to the 2ZR then the 2ZR could now when produced with Valvematic be a viable switch
tunning dependant of cource

or might it still be wishfull thinking

Like I said before, give it some time first. There's only so much valvematic can do for 1.8 liters and people will still need to learn a bit about it to go FI on it. In a few years it will maybe make more sense.
