Working through the manual to get my 1zz back together, and as the title says, is there a way to install to pulley without the tool?
I used the smaay way to remove it (impact wrench). Not sure if this would work now as I'm concerned about rotating the crank without tension on the chain (this is the sequence in the manual). 1zzfe torque spec is 102 ft pounds.
What I'm thinking is install the pulley, torque 'lightly' for now, grip the outer part of the pulley to turn it CCW to set the tensioner and then back CW. Once tension was set in the chain, there would be less risk of something getting screwed up ( chain jumping?) if I accidentally rotated the crank CW. At that point, I could install plugs and maybe compression resistance would be enough to hit the 102 ft lbs with a torque wrench.
